You ain't missing much with NWA... Mgmt hates pilots, pilots hates mgmt, FA hates pilots, pilots hates rampers... passengers suffer. The vicious circles continues.

I work at NWA and HATE IT! We have had many many guys just plain quit. I flew with a new hire on his second trip on the DC9. He had ten guys in his class. Two guys were from Mesaba that submitted applications TEN YEARS AGO and had never updated their applications OR sent in a new application. They said the NWA manpower practically begged these guys to come in and interview. NWA isn't getting the applications it expected. And the primary reasons are simple.
1. EXTREMELY HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT
2. ZERO AND I MEAN ZERO RETIREMENT BENEFITS OF ANY KIND FOR NEW HIRES. NO DEFINED BENEFIT AND NO, REPEAT NO DEFINED CONTRIBUTION FOR NEW HIRES.
3. NWA ALPA IS ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS.

I don't buy that they aren't getting enough qualified applicants either, maybe they aren't getting the number of apps they expected, but first year pay and retirement issues can be singled out as a cause for that. NWA hired 2 out of the 8 candidates that applied the day I interviewed, same thing the next day. How are they being so selective if they aren't getting enough apps? I find this hard to believe, especially when I know of a few well qualified guys who have applied, have internal recs, and can't even get a call for an interview. Both guys hired the day I interviewed were check airman at regionals.

I won't argue points 2 or 3 with you because I agree with you. Except I would go farther to say national ALPA is worthless (especially with this Age 65 thing) not just NWA ALPA.
But, what is hostile about our work environment? I will concede that it was fairly hostile earlier this year with the forced open time and cancelled flights, but what's happening to you now? If you are on reserve you have to talk to the schedulers and that's it. Are they being mean to you? Scheduling you into your days off? Calling you home at all times of night? What?
If you are a blockholder, you never have to even talk to anyone let alone anyone from management. All you have to do is go to work and go home. Are the agents not getting you your paperwork soon enough? Are the fuelers and flight attendants cursing you? Are the wingwalkers flipping you off? Is the check-in phone too cold when you pick it up? You really don't have to talk to anyone from the time you show to the time you go home (except ATC controllers, ramp, tug drivers, ect.).
Ok, I'm done messing with you. But, don't you think hostile is too strong of a word? Extremely hostile? Tell us what's wrong.

+1.
Who is screwing with you now, Screwed?
I had nothing else to do and took a quick look at your twenty something other posts. Glass half empty doesn't even begin to describe your apparent misery at NW. You've got 12 years in, probably a 757 or 330 FO or a junior 9 captain, and it's that bad?
Maybe time for a career change.

Who me? Oh, that's for Screwed. Yeah, that's how I feel. 12 years holds 320 captain or 747-400 at NWA now. Quick movement. If things are that hostile. you can bid reserve on the -400 and never go to work. If you do go to work, at a minimum, you get to fly halfway around the world to forget about the "hostilities.

I don't think ALPA national is worthless with the age 65 rule. they are getting it passes just like they want.
