AA Hiring any time soon?

No. The numbers were extrapolated from age distribution charts on the AApilots web site/members section under retirement. The chart breaks down the number of pilots by age, captains and first officers. I counted the total number in each age bracket (e.g. everybody 50 thru 60) and then divided by the number of ACTIVE pilots--somewhere around 8300. There is a total of 900-1000 pilots who are not counted because they are management, check airman, or inactive for some other reason (active meaning flying the line). Furloughs are also NOT counted.
APC AA page shows active pilots of about 9200, which is correct--meaning the total number of pilots collecting pay checks. For this illustration though, it's only important to count the "real jobs" since that is what most of us are after in the long run. So, of the 4000 or so captains flying the line at AA, 68% or about 2700 are age 50 and older, etc.,etc.

Hey, just got to JFK for the overnight. Saw plenty of Heavies out there. I said to myself, there goes AA73 in flying the big guys around. Ahh, maybe someday. hahe, wheres EZE? Not Buernos Aires is it? I had bunch people connecting from my flight to catch the buenos aires flight tonight. I think they where running over there too

An airplane is an airplane, at least that's what I keep telling myself. I bid the "heavies" strictly for the paycheck... well, that and also a little break from the 5-leg days on the -80. Thought I was gonna hold a line, but back on reserve for this fella. Anyway, shoot me a PM anytime you're on a NY layover and I will gladly provide the adult beverages. Yes, EZE is "BA", the latest JFK departure.
cheers,
73

If you can still get on AApilots, go to "management tools" (blue shaded area in the upper right conner under TOOLS), and select "crew age by fleet". There you will see pilots broken down by age and fleet. Under retirement, you can see total retirees per year. I don't think it includes any furloughees.
