There really is not much talk about AT on the boards although they were my career goal at the start of this career journey. Are they pretty fixed on the hiring mins and how are they as a company? I have heard no real complaints!

I been offer a class on April 28, I currently have 9600+ in which 8600 are on jet time, 7000 on A320 and the rest on B737 200. Current Cap.

But the real question is: Airtran will continue hiring the rest of the year?

I work in the command center(Ops tower) at AirTran while instructing on the side and I like the company. Growth was cut down obviously with us only taking 8 73's this year. I know the pilots are working hard on their front to get some things accomplished. We've got some cool, young FA's and the agents for the most part are pretty good. Working in Atlanta I can say it's always an adventure with lack of gate space, flow control, overbooked flights, etc....

I know the lady who conducts the pilot interviews and she said lately the competitive times seem to be running in the 5,000-6,000 hour range from what she has seen but then again, her assistant actually does a lot of the face-to-face with the chief pilot during interviews.

That's certainly better than my situation, from an FA perspective.

But "cool, young" FA's and "pretty good" agents won't pay for my boat or my third wife.

AirTran guys deserve a contract that reflects the company's profitability. Until then, it will probably be considered no better than a second tier employment option, in many pilots' opinion.

I think the next TA will satisfy pretty much any pilot's desires for narrowbody wages. Our new union leadership won't bring a crappy TA like the last group did.

So even with 100+ a barrel, and all the uncertainty these days, you think they will be able to bring a better deal? I'm new to this business, but it seems like the company has some pretty good bargaining chips...

They either bring a better deal or suffer a strike. If the company gave us every single thing that we asked for, including some pretty crazy stuff, then it would still cost them less over the entire length of the agreement than just a 9 day strike. We need to keep our expectations up. No need to settle for less than we're worth.

I have a stupid question, what is a TA? I assume it stands for the contract or something of the sort. I am really interested in AirTran, I have a little over 2,500 hours all military, class 1 med, ATP. Do I stand any chance to get a call from them? I am available in October 2008, so far each day this year is looking worse and worse.

TA means Tentative Agreement. In other words, a contract that's been negotiated but not approved yet by the pilot membership.

Your times are probably competitive for a military guy.
