sick, but an outstanding idea.
There are 3 things people spend $$$ on with no regards....
Birth of a child....people spend $$$ on things like pics like no tomorrow,
Weddings, won't even go there, what a scam.
funerals.. people will always die no matter the economy.

OK, I'll be a little more serious now. There is no pilot shortage. There will not be a pilot shortage any time soon. Right now, there's at least 1,200 extremely qualified AA guys out on the street. Probably another 2,000 guys at UAL, CAL, NWA and US who are on some sort of long term leave, including military leave.
Think in terms of supply and demand. Although it's true that the regionals have drastically lowered hiring mins compared to 20 years ago, you also need to keep in mind that pay is still horribly low. When there's a true shortage, pay will increase. Over the past 7 years, pay has only decreased. That seems to indicate a surplus of pilots.

In 1989 I read a newspaper article that stated that there was a looming pilot shortage. It's what got me into this racket. The shortage never materialized.
I've been out of work since 4/3. I've got lots of friends that have gone or are going to foreign carriers. I wasn't quiet ready to do that.
Monday I start as DO of an upstart regional airline. At half what I was making. We'll see how that goes.
If I had to do it over again, I'd go get another degree, maybe J.D. or finance. Something that would pay enough so that I could fly my own airplane.

Booze, Tobacco, and recreational pharmaceuticals also seem to do well.

Furloughed since 10/1/2001 from AA. And, have no idea when they will get to the bottom of the heap of us 2800 or so that were furloughed during the years following 9/11. Fortunately I had the military to fall back on..not anymore..will retire in a few months. Have 2 airline jobs that I don't have..hired by JB in March, but nothing going on there either right now. Planning to go for type rating soon, and try to get on w/ SWA. Buddy of mine retired several months ago (also AA dude), and got on with Raytheon..says he is glad not to be at the end of the whip anymore. Maybe a job will come through with Lockheed Martin for me. Hoping that will lend a little more insight for ya.
