To what, exactly, are you referring? (70's & 80's)

I don't recall U.S. airlines ever recruiting talent (from around the world or Arabs) with "a nice package".

?????

Bro. I am one of them on the street and I will tell you I have stated many times before that I was going to come back on the mandatory recall only. I was always going to come back, but I figured no rush to be reserve. I liked instructing and I found an OK gig just next door.

Anyways after instructing barely for 2 weeks, in singles, in the heat, with some hard students, 6 work day per week, less than half the money, I am ready to go back to SJU reserve. And this is a much nicer school than that big name school I used to work at a few years ago. This is run neatly with a down to Earth chief and owner. My other fellow CFI (also furloughed NK guy) feels the same way. I have figured CFIing would be almost fun for a while, and since I like teaching it actually is. But it is scary to operate out of a non-towered field, in a single, on a weekend. I have already had two close calls within less than 20h of working.

I am not sure what everyone else has found. To me it seems having a number at NK makes it harder to get a decent job because I am not willing to resign it. But in my case NK was my target airline due to FLL. I was not really looking hard and I was hoping to find a CFI job for the furlough and it was easy to get one but I probably would have not been able to get anything more than a p135 night cargo gig in a single with my regional background. I have no corporate types. Many of the new hires were like me, a regional FO. As it is at the moment everyone wants time in type, pay for your own training etc… even for SICs. Even Yellow Air Taxi wants 1000h in the Navaho. I did not believe it when I have read it on climbto350. It would not surprise me if they would give you scenario based panel interview ala SW style. Just kidding!!! I am not trying to badmouth yellow air but it shows how everything has turned on a dime, in a matter of weeks. Not much out there that compares to flying even at NK. But I did like it at NK very much there. Living near FLL, NK worked for me very well.

I guess what I am trying to say is that some guys with Lear type or with some other type ratings have found some gigs, and I heard also a few going over to Africa. But I would not be surprised if most of us would come back on first call. I know I will. Hope it happens soon.

I have also heard 5 planes before New Year. I myself doubt that. It was coming from FLL MX.

I know exactly where you are coming from and I am there with you in the same situation. This being said, I have a kid on the way, and my priorities have shifted. I want to come back to Spirit (and I enjoyed it there very much despite all the politics) but how long will I have to wait? I know there are talks about some A320 coming back soon but I will believe it when I see it. The bottom line is if I have a very good offer, I am not going to turn it down.

If you can get a good offer now, you would be crazy to turn it down. Especially with a baby on the horizon. Congrats btw!

I would say more like; Lucky, in that they have oil under their sand.

On a side note: 2 coffee makers going away, advertising on bins and tray tables (airplanes next????)... How did that work out with that other A320 ULCC, Skybus I think its names was?????? If we are making money I guess I shouldn't complain to much..... just wish I could be proud of the service as well.

x183 you are persistent. I was not talking about the airline industry (I should have been clear about that). There are plenty of private companies, higher education and government entities who hired and still hire a lot of foreigners for their expertise.

That's where the H1B visa (among others) comes from. It's a visa for individuals with an expertise in fields like medicine, physical sciences, education,... Look at the private companies and higher education who use extensively that visa and you will see names like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Microsoft, Oracle,...

Arabs are using the same concept but are being way more aggressive. They are offering a good $$$, house, sometimes cars, health care, education for the kids, you name it. There are not a lot of Americans but there are sure plenty of Europeans, Australians, Asians and Indians pouring in. Sure, it is not for everyone. It's a different lifestyle and it's far from what we are familiar. But a lot of people are taking a shot at it and it might pay off at the end.

Well, they invented the alphabet and our numerical system, They defined algebra, astronomy, accounting, calculus and chemistry. Most of what we know about navigation came from the middle east. They preserved almost all of the science and literature from antiquity during the middle ages.

Don’t confuse “evil” and “stupid.” There are a few (very few) “evil” Arabs running around, but they are not stupid.

Don’t confuse “different” and “stupid.” We may believe that they are fundamentally wrong about a whole bunch of things, but they are not a stupid people.

An amazing thread Hijack here folks. Can we please stick to the topic of how great Espirto Wiing is. Some of us hang on to hearsay about this place like crack cocaine. Oh by the way, the new uniform will be something to the effect of a NASCAR drivers including velcro patches. The Capt's welcome aboard announcement will now be brought to you in part by Kellog's Cereal.

Not trying to hijack the thread. Just thought I might have missed something about U.S. or Arab airlines doing massive foreign (airline) hiring in the 70's and 80's with great pay and benefits...........

I never meant to imply that Arabs are not smart. Just because I don't particularly care for the way they run their societal social systems based on religious dogma and stone age justice coupled with absolute discrimination based on gender and economic status..........does not mean that I do not appreciate some of the gifts they have given the world, like our system of numbers, and many other things , whew! (sorry for the gigantic run on sentence).

Peace out to all, even the Arabs.
