The problem is that the big world outside the US is starting to have problems also. One of my friends has been telling me all his troubles with getting started in China and India as the contracts are going away even for those with 10000+ hours and A-320 PIC time. Good luck to all in this particular down cycle- we will all need it even if we are currently employed.

Just for the sake of discussion, what if someone got a type rating 10 years ago, say in a 737, but never flew the airplane. I would think that person would need to go through a full-up training class prior to flying. Or would he/she just need a "refresher" course?

If you/he/she got a type 10 yrs. ago and never flew the airplane? oh boy, probably do the whole thing over again.

Some people have all the luck in the world, I know a guy who flies for NJI, he's got the following types:

1-G-IV, G-V both from NJI
2-Falcon 2000EZ
3-Global Express 700

I'd say his career prospects don't look too bad.

One of the quirks of the WIA money, I'm told, is that you have to first be unemployed for 15 of the previous 26 weeks.

Anyone have any idea if there are any WIA programs for type ratings in Texas? I can't find any!

Don't think so, unless you go apply for a part 91 gig. Otherwise you have to go true at least some form of recurrent/ transition or requalification, which cost about half. And most don't hire just because somebody bought a type-rating. I know I don't.

I will look up the actually numbers when I have some more time, but after 35 calender months you pretty much have to go through a full type-rating again.
This is an FAA thing, not the way a training manual has been written.

Gunpig,

I asked Higher Power in Ft. Worth and they said Texas won't pay for a type rating.
