According to the recruitment department, updated October 2008: There are 48 pilots who are in a pool and an additional 11 who had their class canceled.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news for those who might be waiting for an interview, but depending on how many of those 59 folks take an offer... it might be a while still before interviews.

Roses and ice cream??? We are the lowest paid in the industry. So if we dont unionize management is going to reward us huh? We all saw how we were rewarded after the pcrb.
The word from management?? Who would that be? Do you have a name or are you that management person that is trying to use scare tactics that are the oldest trick in the book. Kind of like that guy that says he knows of a guy that saw the donkey show in Mexico, no he never saw it, he knew of someone that did. I dont buy that garbage for one second and I dont think any pilot at JB is dumb enough to fall for it. Has an airline ever failed because of the pilots unionizing? I doubt it.

I was trying to make it sound as absurd as it in fact is. When a labor group is in negotiations for a new CB, or is trying to start a union, all you hear from MGMT is the Fear/doom/gloom story. Of course its all BS. They will tell you that the "company will grow but if you tie down the company's hands with a collective bargaining agreement no one will want to invest or take a risk in the company. The investors will be scared away by an organized work force." They will go on to tell you that "your organizational efforts will put their growth at risk". Its all a bunch of sheet. Some will buy into it though. Trust me on that. Maybe your management will take the high road on this and not fear-monger. I would be surprised, and if thats the case, consider yourself lucky.I applaud you for your organizational effort and am excited that there are folks like you that are as fired up about as you appear to be. I know its hard to tell sarcasm on these msg fields so cut me some slack jack.
And Good Luck.

I'm gonna say no hiring this year....
(Maybe the other way infact.....)
Focusing on cutting transcons and increasing island flights while remaining focused on existing markets instead of extending its reach.
Double talk for... were not really sure what were going to do.

JetBlue cutting growth expectations further, as tepid economic outlook hits passenger demand
NEW YORK (AP) -- JetBlue Corp. said Tuesday it is paring down its growth expectations further for the full-year as broader economic weakness continues to push down passenger demand.
The carrier now expects growth to be flat to 2 percent higher this year, compared with a previous forecast for 3 percent growth. The company earlier this year projected growth of 6 to 9 percent. JetBlue is posting negative growth numbers this quarter for the first time in the company's history.

Senior Vice President and Treasurer Mark Powers, speaking at the Credit Suisse Global Airline Conference, said the Forest Hills, N.Y.-based carrier expects demand to continue to be sluggish next year.
"And I doubt any airline will tell you different," he told a group of industry analysts.
Powers added the carrier plans to cut its transcontinental business by 30 percent this quarter, but will boost its presence in the Caribbean by the same amount. It expects to grow in the Caribbean by 40 percent in 2009.
The carrier's Caribbean expansion plans will be aided as it grabs more gates at Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Powers said. JetBlue is expanding to 7 gates there -- a major origination point for the Caribbean -- from 4 gates previously.
In a press release Tuesday afternoon, the company said it will add daily nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Cancun, Mexico, in May 2009, pending government approval. Other details of the expansion plans are not yet available.
"On an opportunistic basis, we will grow," Powers said. "The key here is the fleet flexibility -- that really drives us."
The carrier's trimmed capacity is also a key in preserving liquidity, Powers said. Also, it remains focused on existing markets instead of extending its reach. JetBlue began service in two new cities this year, compared with 16 in 2007, he said.
Powers also declined to speculate on how the possible formation of a pilot's union will affect the carrier's costs, saying it remains unclear whether organizing efforts will result in a union for JetBlue pilots.

Sorry man, I thought you were being serious. I get emails regularly about how great we are and how many awards we win for our level of service. Yet, when I look at my paycheck it doesn't mirror the efforts that we, as pilots have given. It took me years to get to this position, I have lived in crapholes in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of our pilots have lived a much worse existence flying for regionals who were underpaid and worked like old tired dogs. We deserve to be compensated as the professional group we are and I'm going to do everything I can in my power. Thanks and sorry for thinking you were in management.
