Any JetBlue rumors???

Cal,
Sorry man, I thought you were being serious. I get emails regularly about how great we are and how many awards we win for our level of service. Yet, when I look at my paycheck it doesn't mirror the efforts that we, as pilots have given. It took me years to get to this position, I have lived in crapholes in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of our pilots have lived a much worse existence flying for regionals who were underpaid and worked like old tired dogs. We deserve to be compensated as the professional group we are and I'm going to do everything I can in my power. Thanks and sorry for thinking you were in management.

Demand it? What if management says no? (Willing to strike?)
Will the union buy more airplanes, create more routes and business? (How?)
How much is it going to cost to set up the union? (2% or more)
How long will it take to see any results? (try 5 years)
Expect to pay for your uniform, laptop, water, snacks ...out of your own pocket in the future. (check with the 'other airlines')

Explain how a Union will result in better pay? (You can't)

All of the airlines with the highest pay scales have strong unions. (councidence?, I don't think so.)
Demand and or pressure the company to give the raises and improved work rules. In addition to threatening to strike there are many other things a group could do, ads, informational picketing, etc.
How long? Maybe 5 years, but those years will go by one way or the other. Id rather get the improvements in 5 years than not at all.
No the union can't by more planes but they can improve your work rules so the company would need to hire more pilots.
Yea 2% dues it's worth it. I think the average unionized pilot group earns 30% more with better work rules.
I hope you were joking about paying for water, uniforms, and snacks, etc. Anyway if you think voting a union would cause that than you definately need a union.
Listen to Herk or better yet vote him in office. When guys like him get you the raise, retirement, and improved work rules in a few years you will be glad.
Good Luck guys.

Explain how a Union will result in better pay? (You can't) as stated earlier union carriers pay more, fact not fiction.
Demand it? What if management says no? (Willing to strike?)
Yes you demand it because we are worth it, have a little pride in your profession. If they say no? We are stronger and more likely to have our needs met as one voice. I'm not saying get beligerent either, obviously your union stewards will negotiate on our behalf to ensure our needs are being met. Why is it that SWA pays their pilots so well?? Do you think it has anything to do with SWAPA or would SWA pay them that well without a union? I think we know the answer.
Will the union buy more airplanes, create more routes and business? (How?) Who said the union would buy more airplanes or create more business???? Nobody. A business has to be run whether there is a union or not.
How much is it going to cost to set up the union? (2% or more) Pay your 2% for a pay increase? Thats a tough one to figure out isn't it?
How long will it take to see any results? (try 5 years) Yes it may take a few years, but I plan on being around. Try not to be the typical "gratify me now" employee. Things take time but 25 years from now when you retire it will be worth it.

It is possible that your In-house Union could do great things and do them the correct right way. Perhaps they can think out of the box and get the trans-con turns so many of you wanted.
The first five years your management listened to your pilot group and responded. Did you think that would last forever?
Unions do alot of safety work.
911 has a major and lasting affect on the airlines. Hence the pay cuts.
You seem to give the impression that unions are powerless, yet charge you 2% dues.
It is OK to have your opinion. But ALPA and APA and SWAPA have done much for the profession, safety, wages job creation and job protection for decades.
You do understand that if this quarter JB management said hey, we're losing money, we need you to be more productive and take a pay cut. You have no recourse. They've been good to you so far, but for how much longer?
Waterboarder, have you thought about asking several SWA pilots what they think about SWAPA? How it works, the good, the bad the ugly?
I hear JB has good mgmt, with good people in an in-house union working with managment, the possibilities could exceed your vision.
Best wishes to JB's

Just some info. JB was offering leaves of absence mid year 08 (I took one). Then late summer/early fall they were soliciting people to walk away from their Personal Employment Agreements. I took that too on November 1, 2008. If they are already considering hiring for early '09, it might just be what this thread is all about...a rumor. It was a great place to work, but I could not afford living on the 75 month guarantee. Hope all is well over there.
