ALPA sold its membership down the river while the French get it right. It's like bizaro world.
National Pilots' Strike from 14 to 17 November 2008
French airline pilots? unions have unanimously called a four-day strike from Friday 14 November at one minute past midnight to Monday 17 November at midnight, to protest against changes to the retirement age currently under discussion in the French Parliament (changing from 60 to 65).
Air France is expecting very severe disruptions to its operations. As things stand, the approximate estimation for Air France for Friday 14 November is the cancellation of half its long-haul flights from Paris and the same for medium-haul flights. More cancellations to long-haul flights are expected as the strike progresses.
Information will be updated as the situations evolves.

Although the membership wanted to fight, ALPA leadership didn't surrender... they unlocked the back gate and let them in during the dead of night! There's another word for that sort of behavior.

Age 65 got let out by ICAO rule changes (in which European governments were big instigators). But it's nice to bash ALPA...

I think you're missing the point. They're not worried about flying to age 65, they don't oppose that. They oppose their retirement age (meaning full benefit commencement date) being changed to age 65...

I think it was Italy and Portugal that also passed on the rule change. And, Hungary said age 62.

In fact, ALPO even provided maps, flashlights and offered moving vans so that management could take whatever they wanted.
Great post!
Prater said he would be against any change to age 60 when taking office then he turned around a few short months later and lobbied for it on Capital Hill.
The word LIAR comes to my mind.
If you expect ALPA national to do anything to help you career you have a sad surprise coming.

AA, FDX, CAL, and UPS. Maintaining 60 as the normal retirement age allows you to leave at 60 without penalty.
Definetly worth striking over.
