Delta/NW/Midwest vs Airtran?
Just curious about what the future holds.
My understanding is that AirTran tried to buy Midwest and Midwest said no. So AirTran is going to start operating out of Milwaukee. I also have the understanding that Midwest is partially owned by Northwest, who just merged with Delta.
So having all that been said...
Are we to infer that Midwest will sell/trade its 717's to Delta/NW to replace the DC-9's that are on their way out? Do we have an airline battle for the midwest on our hands? Just wanted to hear some educated guesses on this one, not trying to start any arguments.

In our company news letter last month @ AirTran, it was confirmed a possible deal with Boeing is being worked out to get up to 5 ex-Midwest 717's going into early 2009 as we increase the ultilization of the 717. I believe we stand @ 86 717's right now after one went back to Hawaiian.

Yep, and DAL is working on those jets too. We may fly em we may not, but if you get them DAL will make sure that you pay a lot more for them than you should.
I personally think that all the work that is being done to get those jets is just to drive up your acquisition cost of them.

NWA will have 58 DC-9's on 1 Jan. The replacement aircraft have already been ordered and sadly the flying will be outsourced as the last 100 DC-9's had the flying outsourced. I really don't see Delta having any interest in operating the 717. The EMB-190 is more efficient and available in the numbers Delta might need. It looks like however that Delta is going to wait for the Bombardiar C series if and when they ever buy a 100 seat aircraft.

I agree on the decision between the C Series and the 190. DAL feels that the 190 was obsolete the day it was certified. Add to that, that DAL only wanted 10 year leases and could not get em.
The 717 at the correct price is a good bridge airplane until the next gen stuff comes around!

Boeing wants the 717 GONE. They never wanted this MD product to begin with. I think Boeing would be happy with it out of the workplace.
and NWA is a "passive" investor anyways, that's what our fearless leader TH tells us. our ALPA ""brothers" have our backs anyways. hahahahaha!
