I'm probably gonna get banned for this but here it goes......I hope I explain it good enough so that I dont get banned:
I HATE how the FO is getting thrown in as "the rest of the crew"...Excuse me???? But FO's are not "the rest of the crew". We fly the plane and are just as qualified as the Captain......probably less experienced but if given the opportunity we can do as good of a job as the Captain in flying an aircraft. That FO should not be thrown in as just "the rest of the crew"....Our job (Pilots) takes a heck of a lot more technical and mental training than to walk up and down an aisle and serve drinks and tell people to turn their phones off.

Geeze, watching that program, you'd think it only takes a captain, 2 normal FAs and one annyong blonde to saftely operate an airplane. Where is that other guy? What is that guy called? He sits to the right of the ca and does something....
Good program. I like the professionalims Sully portrayed and best of all he didn't give into the bad Katey Curric questions. Annoying blonde FA, no FO.
Sully will be on Larry King live Monday.

We all see your point and I'm sure we'll all agree that the F/O is an integral part of the Flight Crew, and not part of the "Cabin Crew." I don't think anyone was trying to present it any other way. That said however, there usually is a difference in aggregate flying knowledge between your senior Captain and your mid-seniority First Officer. If an f/o hasn't checked out as a captain, there's a good chance that if he tried to act as the captain, he'd fall short, if for no other reason, than there would be a number of details he would possibly miss, not so much the "flying the plane details", but more the planning type details. That's not to say that this particular f/o couldn't have done as good a job, but since he relinquished the flying duties upon being directed to by the Captain, we'll really never know. But in our industry, we can take solace in the fact that we all know what went on and that both front end guys did great.

Very well said JJ. You seem to have gotten my point across better than I did. I agree with what you said about the decision making knowledge that comes along with years and years of experience.
I guess what I was trying to get across was that I'm upset at how the FO is being thrown into a pile with the FA's....not Sully's fault, more the media fault than anything. Thanks for helping me sort of explain my thought process

Holy smokes, I don't think I've ever seen a group of people who are so sensitive about their jobs that they get all up in arms about someone saying "I" instead of "we".
Are you the same people who get your panties in a wad when someone uses the term "copilot"? talk about an enormous chip on your collective shoulders.
As someone else said...how about forgetting this retarded small stuff and instead appreciating the HUGE success of this entire crew in saving many lives in an absolute crisis situation. At a time that things are looking dark for the airline industry, we get a big shining ray of light that shows why "airline pilots are worth $200K a year", and all we do is ***** about how one guy is getting the credit.
What was that quote again about how much good you can do when you don't care who gets the credit?

I couldn't agree more. And thanks to the poster who shared the link to 60 Minutes. I was anxious to see it after reading all the somewhat negative posts. I believe that Sulley embodies what we should all aspire to as airline pilots. Having been in this business now for almost 30 years, I have seen all manners of "professionalism" by pilots. His "I" answers were in response to KC's direct school girlish questions. But one very telling clip was when they all entered the hall in CLT. As Sulley was entering first, he paused, put a slight hand of Jeff's arm to bring him into the forefront.
What we are seeing is the media's manipulation of the incident to fit their boilerplate of a great story and a "hero". They know nothing of cockpit or crew dynamics, CRM or shared duties. They have a story to cover and damn if the facts are going to get in the way.
Again, after the interview, I was every bit as impressed with the way he has handled all of this. So when you are walking through the terminal with your tie undone, jacket flapping in the breeze etc. etc., take a second and think what your pax are thinking when they see you-because they are. "Could this guy do the job like that captain who landed the plane in the river?"
Be damn happy that a true professional has, at least for the time being, pulled us all out of the mud, cleaned us all up a little and made us proud of our profession.

Canada Geese can fly in IMC without any problems. They stay in formation too to answer a previously posted question.
