Sully's 60 Minutes Interview
#41

I have not had many 320 pilots talkning to me on this forum or I would have listening and I have not been rude to anybody so why dont you chill.
I do have a friend that is siminstructor on it and I will ask more about it when I get in touch with him......
May we all other continue to exist now??

He started APU immediately so he had electrical configuration for Normal Law on flight controll and..........I am not sure but I believe you have to have total electrical failure for the anti stall system to fail...
I have a very good friend in the training department at an Airline that operates 320s so I will ask about that........

PS Assuming the APU came online at some point, they would have to reset the ELAC SEC AND FACs to get beck to Normal Law. Last thing I would be doing as I watched the Hudson get closer...

The first series of disgruntled posters were fed up with Sully, not impressed with what he did, sure the A320 can be flown by a chimp. The same contestants that think date of grad from Southeast West Virginia flyin skool should be on the national seniority list.
Great Job, Captain Sully! After the United States Air Force Academy, Distinguished Graduate from UPT, F-4 Phantom, 30 years as an Airline Pilot, Masters from Purdue, post graduate work at Cal, and now this recognition of his excellence. But wait, some RJ new hire from GoJet thinks it's no big deal. Another dot in the windscreen Sully, miles away, out of airspeed and ideas.

I think the angst you caused to the other poster was deminishing the fine example of airmanship and skill displayed by the crew.
The engineering that goes into modern fly by wire aircraft is a necessity since there is no feel feedback to the pilot. He/she is still flying the aircraft in this situation and any Airbus magic available only helped not accomplished the maneuver they successfully completed.
See the difference?

But this crew was also very lucky, lucky that they had enough altitude to reach the Hudson, lucky that it was day time, that the Hudson was calm and that the A320 like the E190 must be one of the best gliders among Airline jets as it is impossible to stall. They do not have a stickshaker as it is not necessary because they have a system that trims it to prevent it from stalling so if you trim it up when not having power the airplane itself will keep lowest possible flying speed until it hits the ground (or water) not that the slowest flying speed is always the best glide speed but it takes away the problem of getting to slow and worrying about stalling when having to manuver to reach your landing spot, it also gives kind of a secuirty and gives you more time to concentrate on calculating your landing spot......... .....the system is perfect for landing with no engines. I wonder if the media know this.
Not taking away from Sully AND THE CREW that they did an excellent job.

I agree with your final statement and say that everyone did an OUTSTANDING job and it is good to get some positive news regarding our profession.

Given the situation the CREW did a very outstanding job. What the media has to understand is that they were also very lucky. What if it was night, or if it was solid IMC. The media would be talking about 155 bodie bags.

I hope I didn't come across that way. I'm not a sim instructor in the plane but have just flown it. Ask your friend.

The angst that I may have caused (without knowing why) came only from one poster with an attitude.. There will always be those that like to jump on the first opportunity to be agresive but........ actually Even Sniper was ok in his statements about what I posted.
Also I never said anything negative about the fine airmanship they did.
I am sure that many here did not even know that the A320 does not have stickshaker.
I had the pleasure to sit in the cockpit on a flight from Europe to Norden Africa in the early 90s and had some stuff explained to me by the pilots.
I am not easely offended and I dont give much for those that need to release angst online.
I was not acting as a master of any knowledge about the A320. I was thinking loud with my very limited knowledge on what I have had explained from pilots and my friend from a training department. I was not attacking anyone or taking down what they did.
There will always be a@@wholes. It just the nature of the business.
English is not my first language and I have only been American for a few years but I am proud of not using spellcheck even if i know that I need it.
Have seen many raised with English as first language that are worse.

I too would have liked to see some more credit paid to the first officer, but for that I blame the 60 Minutes editing crew. However, in their defense, I'm sure they just didn't realize what a slight they caused, by not giving the f/o some airtime, and then, by default, some credit. Everyone (on the flight crew) did a great job, of that there can really be little discussion, and they did the professional piloting industry great credit.
As for Sully, I was most impressed when he went back into the hull and brought out with him, the aircraft log. Now that's a professional. Probably wanted to make a writeup about an overflowing aft john or something.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha! I was watching it with my dad and as soon as she started to talk (The BLONDE ONE without the uniform) I looked at my dad and said...."I dont like her"....she was definitely the drama queen.
Overall, he handled the interview well. I too was annoyed at how he said "I" all the time. I dont care what anyone says about the Captain this the Captain that, if something happens, the feds come after both the Captain AND the FO! But since this went well all the credit now goes to the Captain....kinda bugs me.
I'm probably gonna get banned for this but here it goes......I hope I explain it good enough so that I dont get banned:
I HATE how the FO is getting thrown in as "the rest of the crew"...Excuse me???? But FO's are not "the rest of the crew". We fly the plane and are just as qualified as the Captain......probably less experienced but if given the opportunity we can do as good of a job as the Captain in flying an aircraft. That FO should not be thrown in as just "the rest of the crew"....Our job (Pilots) takes a heck of a lot more technical and mental training than to walk up and down an aisle and serve drinks and tell people to turn their phones off.
