Given the implosion of the auto industry, I just cannot see LADAWN stiff arming the furlough issue much longer. DTW is a hub--for now.

[quote=Ralphie;608037]They don't come out and say it in so many words. Two direct quotes from MGMT...

1) Delta said in a statement that it "continues to take every step possible to avoid involuntary reductions of frontline employees as a result of current economic conditions."
...i.e., they're already planting the "this is due to the economy, not the merger" seed.

This statement is taken out of context. It did not reference or refer to pilots. Delta has always dealt with the pilots and pilots issues seperate from "frontline employees". If he had posted the entire letter it was very clear it did not apply nor was aimed at pilots. The payback on a furlough is about the 2 year point. There are still no plans to furlough regardless of the outcome of the PERP.

One of the reasons that pilots are never offered an early out is that someone has to fly the widebody airplanes and whomever does is going to be paid the same thing since we are on a twelve year payscale. So whether they are 60 or 48, the same cost is still there. Now, if the positions just disappear, the company can see the advantage to offering an early out vs a furlough. The advantage to us at the moment is, hopefully, no displacements and in the future, if we ever start expanding again, faster upgrades. Hopefully this will happen but I'm not holding my breath.

Either way, if the company is offering this with no strings attached, I say go for it and see how many will take it!!!! What have we got to loose?

Denny
Correct. Like we have had AE's with no backfill. Consider this like an MD with no top fill. The positions will just disappear. What's depressing now is looking around the outlying tarmac's in ATL and seeing all those 757's & 767's parked. Don't mind the RJ's sitting though. Hopefully the guys will take a serious look at the package and not make the same mistake some DAL guys did and not take it. Afterwards they realized that they are now working for free since their retirement evaporated and they subtract what they turned down. When the buyout is factored in (when the amounts are released), will guys do this job for half-pay for their last few years. There were still a handful a month retiring, now maybe a few more may come off the fence.

Regardless of the state of the auto industry DTW is far too valuable of an airport to pull out of. The runway configuration allows for minimal to almost zero delays. In fact it's rare to even be delayed going to DTW. It usually only happens when the winds swing out of the west & the X-wind limitation for many airplanes begins to be exceeded. You can also reach Asia & Europe non stop. The global position of DTW is invaluable.

I can see MEM, CVG, or even MSP or SLC closing before DTW.

Manning for the following summer is about right. If the program goes through and a substantial number of pilots take the program the company will have to hire if marketing does not make a change in the block hour program.

Sailing,

Thanks for the info.

Ah, I guess I'm just not as versed in this forum. (Removed smart ass remark due to respect for my co-workers).

My point was that it's over. No hits, runs, or balls (that's our Union). We're one. I frankly don't give a rat's ass how this merger came about or who had the better this or that. I want to provide for my family and work somewhere semi-fun if possible. Get the f...k over it!

I'm still gonna look good in the Whale after Moak removes the fences .

Not sure where you are on the list but it better be pretty senior...... The seniority for B positions for a blockholder is about 15-16 years, you can sit on reserve if you have 14 years in. Now for an A position I think you have to have known Jesus personally
