I guess I'm one of those idiots but riddle me this Bigflya.how come I'm much better off financially by staying than I would have been by taking the money and finding another job? I speak from experience not from the hip.
I think this package is aimed at our Northern brothers, they still have a pension so it makes sense. The big D would have to cough up a lot of cash to buy the Southern guys off and that ain't going to happen.

Bigflya, I was/am one of those guys and I promise you I am not working for free.Of the 500 or so that were able to go but stayed I could make a blanket statement and say every one of us are very glad we stayed. On the contrary, very few of the the guys that took the money and ran are glad they left.Who could have forseen age 65,the claim, the note, stock etc. This is all old news, let's move on to more important issues like scope, money, retirement etc.

It's true that many of us who left discovered that we could have made a lot more money had we stayed, due to the factors you mention. But you would be surprised at how happy we are to be retired, even with a greatly reduced income. I went (reluctantly) at 55, and had no idea how tired I had become of commuting, hotel rooms, etc. until that all disappeared.

It's encouraging that your enjoying a well deserved retirement. I alway enjoy your input into the forum. All the best.

While the PERP is a genuine, mutually beneficial, offer, I expect management will remind us "we tried to mitigate furloughs" when the notices go out.
The non public investment newsletters have been saying "get out - this is not nearly over, not by a long shot... . The financial houses are distorting the truth and their reports are misleading the market recovery... ."
