It works. There is nothing wrong if you are responsible, but I agree.

AS i recall, the NWA airline crew that got busted back in the day all got canned except the capt. His excuse was he was an alcoholic and qualified under the American's With Disabilities Act. Can't this capt claim the same thing no?

That is not something you should have to tell an airline pilot in indoc.

Nope. The Capt was fired too. He also spent close to three years in federal prision before being pardonded by President Clinton. He then went about getting all his certs back, since they had been revoked. If I remember correctly he wrote the CEO and explained his entire family history and what had caused him to become an alcoholic in the first place and added something about always wanting to fly the 74. The CEO brought him back on for something like 9 months prior to his 60th birthday. How long he was brought back on for is the only thing I can't remember from when I heard him speak.

I don't know what parts of Europe you're flying in, but most places I go a pint of beer is about half what 8oz. of Coke is. Vasser is usually close to parity.

Well, in this part of the world, one of our pilots just got canned for drinking within the 12 hour rule on a layover. How was he found out? A company captain on another trip dropped a call back to the company. Didn't tell the guy to "close shop". Just called the company. Next morning they hit him with the test at pickup time. Was over the limit by a bit. Said they would test him at the airport and he passed-too late, even though officially duty doesn't start until one hour before departure. Company says in uniform at pickup is start of duty.

You guys be very careful when you are overseas, especially at LHR. They are watching and looking and love to nail a US pilot.

Urban legend. The story is a lot different.

He paid his debt to society and only after a great length of time was offered his job back where he could retire as a pilot for NWA. He is on a public speaking circuit. Go hear his story. It is a good one to hear.

Lyle is a great guy and has insight for all of us. He lives in the ATL area.
