1.5 sm vis, and 5BKN.....F/Os can land, but an ILS too?
It will be interesting to see the cpts age, nonetheless will get more attention towards the retirement age.
Agree with 9999, this information needs to be protected better. Awful for the family, RIP.

Now reported the Captain was 61 years old, had 21 years of service for CAL and the company has been in contact with the family.
They are reporting he died of 'natural' causes. Not sure exactly what natural causes means by their definition.
There was a reserve crew on the flight and one of them is up front flying with the FO.

The media is out of control............................
The "back up crew" is on there for instances like this
They are so clueless
Funny this situation will make for an interesting debate, he was 61, so years previous he would not have been working, however goes to show if one pilot goes, the others can do the job just fine.
Terrible way to go, "FLY UNTIL YOU DIE"

I feel bad for the friends and family that lost a loved one, and the FO that saw it happen. Watching someone die is tramatic. I hope it was a quick painless death.
The media is incompetant idiots. It scares me that we rely on information from them. Just for the fact that they feel the need to show the landing live is ridiculous. It alludes that the FO is not capable of landing the plane and ATC is guiding them down. Like a movie with Kurt Russell that just has his private and lands Air Force 1, I can't remember what it is called.
It is funny how the general public believe that the 'co-pilot' doesn't actually fly the plane.

Hey Joey...not trying to change the thread...but what happened to Saaborowski???

I agree Joey, The sad part is that had they not changed the age rule hen he would have been forced to retire and would now be home with his family.
I feel sorry for his family that is finding out about it by watching the news.
