How is JetBlue?

Really? You seem like one of the ONLY Jetblue pilots I've spoken with who has implied this. Most are excited about the 30% growth in BOS and most are expecting more growth. Most have imiplied your hiring pool (50 ish I thought) would be used. But you are there and know more then those of us who arent. So I have to take your knowledge of the situation. But it seems odd from what others have been saying at your very company.
I would just like to put my two cents into this. There are not 50 pilots in the hiring pool. The pool was depleted about 8 monts ago. If there is anyone left in the pool, that number is very low, my guess would be 5 or less and I think thats a high number. Hope this helps.

A couple of points to talk about:
1) no airplanes to be delivered in 2010
2) on our pilot webpage Verna has mentioned on the Oct. update No hiring for 2010.
Don't forget that even dough we are growing 30% in BOS we are only growing 3 to 4% system wide in 2010, we do have a pretty big reduction in JFK.
If I could I would copy and paste the e-mail from the JFK CP office were it shows this reduction, almost 200 crews from the bus and 120 from the E90 been reduced until Dec 2010. I'm just showing you the facts, I wish we could hire more people during the summer months we have 0 reserves system wide.

I'd agree with JetBlue Rod. I think the BOS expansion is timely, but it is being performed largely with excess resources from the system (maybe primarily JFK). He is accurate about the last hiring forecast. Although, it was posted before the last quarter earnings or the US Airways cuts announcement. Frankly, this company is quite conservative on growth now, and with good reason.
I do feel that rhetoric from the business managers, though, is starting to indicate future growth. There has been some more aggressive talk about expansion and territory defense. A business forecast for 2010 is still being developed and the company, though not accepting any hulls now in 2010, reserves the right to acquire if desired. It sounds "wait and see" to me. If more announcements of the US Airways variety occur, things may pick up smartly. Good Luck.

Likewise. I don't recall anything from the CPO implying a reduction that large in JFK; heck we only have 120-ish 190 crews in JFK period.
It's not entirely impossible we could hire in '10. No firm orders for delivery, but a few Embraer options could be exercised. It is true that the last system bid showed a small net reduction in total positions, but that only shows through first quarter of 2010.
As for qualifications, will probably be very competitive given the landscape. We did hire a few guys last time around with no TPIC, but they were a tiny percentage and almost entirely from Eagle, Comair, with several years in the right seat.

JetRod,
When was that email sent to us? I remember no such email from Chief Pilot saying they are almost completely cutting JFK. To cut 200 in the 320 and 120 in the e190 would mean they are displacing 80% of the JFK based pilots for the purpose of growing Boston by 30%. By the way NY is jetBlue's money maker, even with runway closers, EDCT's , cancellations. Also, don't forget the Lufthansa deal. Yes, there will be a reduction in JFK, but 80%? Please give me the date of the email, hope I didnt miss it, and I hope I'm wrong!
