I've had a couple captains that have told me the seatbelt sign is my choice, since it's my leg. Or something like that.

I've also had some that tell me "It's their switch, don't touch it." Either way I respect them, and just do what they ask. A lot of our pilots never turn it off, which drives me crazy. There ARE people who try to obey the sign, and that might need to use the restroom.

The only time I'll ever turn it on myself is if it gets really bumpy while the CA is in the bathroom. Other than that, even if they did give me the leeway on the sign, out of respect I won't touch it.

This does not, however, make it comfortable!

Yep, all airplanes that I've flown have a very distinct way of telling you that you didn't kick out all the crab!

Don't ever expect a B-52 pilot to agree with you ...

As someone who's seen a few GA airplanes lose directional control I'm not a fan of the practice unless there's not an option that is better. Even if the airplane can 'take' it, it seems to me to be a lot of stress on the airframe and undercarriage... Meh!

Crabber.

Anyways, see, wind checks pay off...

YouTube - Delta Airlines 757- 200 rejected landing

Save yourself time, fast forward to 2:15ish. And don't get overly excited, its kind of dull.

Totally teasing, but its funny to see this from the backs perspective, not quite the cluster that happens in the front.

Anybody else notice that the photo ISN'T a DAL-N (NWA) A-320 like the thread lead says. Not one of our aircraft has the brand name witten in big red/orange letters down the side like it shows on the right side of the aircraft.

My guess, its a European carrier like Easy jet or .com line landing in Spain or similar territory. Even the runway signs at the end look "off".

Good point and good post.

Having seen this one play out in Court several times (as an Expert for the defense) ... if there are PIREPS for turbulence, or good reason to believe the area could be turbulent, the difference between ON and OFF is between five and eight times the damages that would have been awarded if the seat belt switch is in the position which makes the most sense to the jury.

FWIW, heard a Quantas 747 ask for a wind check last night at LAX. I guess they're lame as well.
