Well I would submit that the people responsible for the lapse in inspection at SWA should also be fired, this isn't just a "I forgot to take out the trash tonight dear" kind of action, and those idiots should be held accountable for their actions. I believe that a little more accountability would do wonders for the entire system. You can't tell me their is any reasonable explanation for flying past your DESTINATION by 150 miles. I have done a crossword or two airborne, I am not holier than thou, but the fact we have "professional people" defending these A** Clowns is just plain silly. I am very tired of our "profession" having no standards and insisting on everyone should be upgraded eventually and keep their jobs no matter how bad they screw up. The percentage of airline pilots who get upgraded is silly. Talent/Skill/Competence has nothing to do with sitting in the left seat. Getting hired first is the key. COLGAN ACCIDENT, landing on a TAXI WAY, PASSING UP YOUR DESTINATION by over a hundred miles are not honest mistakes that anyone could do. They are negligent incidents/accidents that we as a profession should be accountable for. But I guess if you sit in the left seat all is good. Good luck, we in the right seat are watching.

I agree on one point... lets let an investigation on these incidents proceed. As to the taxiway incident... I didnt read enough of that thread before it was closed to make a judgement. As for this situation... I am just curious as to what EXPLANATION would satisfy the brain trust here that these guys should be slapped on the wrist and sent back out to ply the friendly skies? Personally, I cant think of one, but thats just me.

Hmmm. Lets see.... heated discussion about the three S's? Company Policy? I guess their discussion created so much heat in the cockpit that their PNDs went blank.
Not to worry.... these guys will find jobs at McDonalds, or Walmart, provided however, they don't oversleep the day of their interviews.

Yeah, very funny. Here's one for you.
I heard a jetBlue aircraft calling on guard one day a few months back. They were out over the water (Puerto Rico flight maybe) and had a rapid-D. They were at 10,000 feet, and as such, Miami/Jax center couldn't hear them. They were trying to coordinate their position and fuel with a United jet who could hear them. Unfortunately, they had trouble communicating with them because another jetBlue aircraft with similar callsign numbers (who could only hear the United pilot) thought they were calling them on guard. So the other jetBlue aircraft was saying "You're on Guard" "We are in contact with Jax center thank you"
Comical. All the while his buddy was in distress. Good times.

What kind of BS is that. To follow your logic every alt bust,every rte deviation,every runway incursion,and of course every sim check bust should also be grounds for dismissal.I'm so glad that "god's gift to aviation" is in my right seat watching me.

I do think if I am flying from Seattle to Los Angeles and I fly to San Diego and then turn around because (insert bullsh1t excuse) I passed my destination, I have some serious issues. I am sorry if I am "jumping to conclusions" but I guess I am tired of hearing how "professional" our profession is. Once again, I have said an honest mistake is defensible. Flying that far past your destination and being listed as NORDO by center is not acceptable. But I guess that FO sitting next to you probably conspired against you to make sure you were asleep at the helm.

Before all of you crucify these two pilots, have you ever thought to look at why they might have fallen asleep? They most likely were at the end of a long duty day preceded by a min rest overnight. This incident proves that the FAA needs to quit dragging their feet and pass new duty time regulations.
