Numbers lie. These are manipulated to achieve an end. UAL/CAL is no better/worse off than any other US carrier (except maybe SWA). Get over yourself mate.

There's really nothing to get over. The employees at my airline do not want to merge with your airline, plain and simple. Every time I see a UAL Pilot they're tripping over themselves explaining how great it would be if we combine forces. I politely tell them that I want nothing to do with UAL and wish them well. If thats not a tell-tale sign that we're happier alone than in bed with you, than perhaps you should "get over it".

Its not a case of ego, or I'm better than you are, its simple economics. We don't feel that you'll be bringing anything to the party other than a large anchor that finally sinks our already barely afloat boat.

Ditto. Just not a good idea for us right now. I have career expectations that never involved UA or anybody else. I would only want to merge with SW or Fedex since we are speculating.

My answer to that is: CAL had a choice of which alliance to join....and they went with STAR. You could have joined up with AMR but you did not. Like stated from someone else, CAL is not some airline without financial struggles. They knew if they did not hook up with an allicance...they may not survive at all.

I get tired of the "my airline is better than your's arguement." Both airlines seem to be trying to shrink to profitability right now. UAL and CAL management would both like to fly an RJ to Europe or Asia, and both our contracts suck. I show up at my job (because right now it just doesn't feel like a career), and do the best I can to make sure everyone arrives safely at their destination just like the ALPA pilots at United. If a merger ever happens I hope that both pilot groups can make it as fair as possible, and make the combined carrier the best, even when management can't.

It doesn't matter what the pilot groups want or wish for. It's up to Wall Street and the CEOs (and their egos) to determine who will be merged.

Management will use labor sentiment to bolster management's goals, just like the abortive Delta - Us Airways deal. If management does not want to play then there is no deal. Don't believe it goes the other way.
