The Truth About the Profession - Home
I am soliciting your critique/input. I created this website recently. I participate in various aviation forums like many of you, and invariably we have young people, career changers, etc., asking about becoming an airline pilot. I tried to compile many of the things that I have read over the years into one source. Take a look at the site, and let me know what you think. If you have anything to add, pass it along to me, particularly comments for the "advice from those currently in the profession." There's not going to be any advertising on the site or anything like that as it is just a personal site. It's strictly for information only.

Great site. I think the biggest things the general public doesn't understand are:
1. you have to maintain excellent health throughout your career or you will lose everything you worked for (also, impeccable personal record)
2. how long and hard the road to a major captain seat job is
3. pilot hourly pay rates equating to regular job wages
4. loss of a pilot job forcing you to start at the bottom at a new carrier (if you can even get hired somewhere)
You hit on all of these topics. But unfortunately, I don't think the average non-pilot can ever really process this stuff no matter how many times they read it or have it explained to them. That's why the public has no sympathy when some airline management screws over the pilots again and again.

I think your site is informative and well done. Have you thought of having a discussion forum so young people could ask questions and old people could comment? Not that discussion forums can ever get out of hand...haha.
Will your current website title get as many search engine hits as if it had an aviation name? I'm wondering if "the truth about the airline pilot profession" might be more descriptive.
Good luck with it. Check your PM's.
