Default SWAPA in bed with RAH IBT?

I just heard that SWAPA is assisting RAH IBT with their integration arbitration proceedings. Why would SWAPA want to be involved in the loss of YX and F9 jobs to RAH pilots?

Maybe they hope to learn something for possible future reference?

Even the mighty SWA could not staple a pilot group without their consent...that's now a federal law.

It is true SWAPA is observing the arbitration. Why wouldn't you want to be there? Its a first hand look at how McCaskill/Bond will affect all airlines. If your union was invited I guarantee they would accept to watch.

He is refering to the McCaskill/Bond law which went into effect a couple of years ago. Let me say though, you most certainly CAN staple a pilot group without their consent. The question that is usually asked is, "what are the job expectancy of the pilots?" "And would a staple be fair?" Some (not all) would argue that an airline in bankruptcy with your future being unemployment, a staple might be fair, with pay protections, domicile fence, ect ect ect.

This arguement would not work with a viable company. Now before I get flamed this is just one possible simplistic explanation of a possible staple. Not the end-all-be-all of arbitration or McCaskill/Bond law.

It's because SWAPA wants to see how it's going to go when they buy AirTran.

C5's got it right. The the law has NOT been litigated yet so who knows how the first one will go down. Though it'll set a precedent for future mergers.

Career expectations is (was) an ALPA term, but I bet it'll be incorporated into any defense.

Mushroom,

Bond / McCaskill:

.: United States Senator Kit Bond :: Press Room :.

or from ALPA:

Important Facts Regarding the McCaskill-Bond Seniority Integration Legislation

Allegheny / Mohawk LPP:

IMO, the law of unintended consequences may mean LESS mergers in the future (which may be good for the industry as a whole). However, this law may result in more furloughs because an airline just closes up shop vice being bought before ch 7 liquidation. Nothing is free.

Just my opinion though; I do not claim to be an expert.

M,

We are but pawns in this airplane game. If SWAPA is sitting at the IBT table (or in the background) they are there to learn a little something. I agree with you there. Though I doubt they are "helping out" as the OP wrote.

I also doubt SWA will ever merge with AAI; at least I hope not. Route overlap is scary actually, almost looks like a UA/CAL overlap on the domestic side of the house. It would probably be a great match (at least route match wise). I doubt either pilot group wants to merge.

Good luck with your current negotiations; stay strong. I mean this bro.

No I hear it is Alaska, all 737's, AAG's got a billion in the bank sounds like a good target to me.
