Delta New Hires/Class Dates/Cleared to Train
#681
That does bring up an interesting question - since new hires are niether DALS or DALN, does that mean they are not fenced off the fenced fleets? I.E. in theory would a new hire be awarded a 744 spot before a DALS guy would be awarded it? I think the way the SLI award is worded, that is the case.
So bottom line, as always, is: Bid what you want, and want what you bid.

When you are at the training center, you will be on virginia ave in the ATL. There is an establishment of fine dining on that street called the barbecue kitchen. In front of the BBQ Kitchen, there is a graveyard, on the backside there is a hotel that is flanked by a street that runs parallel to virginia ave. Half or more of the houses on the first block of that street are crashpads. If I were you, I would check a couple of those out, they are average to above average for what you can expect for crashpads in this new adventure job of yours.
The first thing you need to do is grab a former commuter pilot in your class and have him help you put a bid in for something other than NYC. Shorter commutes on mainline jets are where you want to be based. You dont want multiple leg commutes.

Don't forget to take advantage of the mentor program. Flt Ops has been asking for volunteers to help all the new hires with all of these issues. If you haven't heard/don't know about this call Delta Alpa or talk to whoever your new hire rep is.
Welcome aboard to all and good luck!

Hello everyone.
I finally got the cleared to train letter it took me just shy of seven weeks for those who are curious. I do not have a class date yet, and I am wondering if anyone knows when the next class is after the 27 of sept.
thanks

Thank you
It has been a long and stressful seven weeks and the longer the delay had been the worse my mind was getting coming up with all the crazy situations and reasons why I had not gotten the letter. Cannot wait to start and if I hear anything I will post it here and anyone that does as well post away.
take care and cant wait to join the ranks

MSP has a few crashpads by the Mall of America where you could use the train to get back and forth and wouldn't need a car. Prices are $180-200.
Later you can make your way to SLC or LAX.

I would say MSP will be the least painful or most enjoyable!! It looks like MSP MD88 will be one of the categories that will have the most new hires this time around. If you are in the beginning of that wave you'll see the bidding power sooner.

Your mileage may vary..Again, let me remind you who thinks MSPM88 is all roses. Things are improving very slowly, (We added about 10 lines this month comparing to last), but the most junior lineholder is still about 60% top of the list in the category. I expect to see more lines coming by December. But either way, with the surplus of us on reserve, it's been bearable, even for a commuter, sitting no more than 3 short call a month, and I don't even need a crashpad!
