Delta New Hires/Class Dates/Cleared to Train
#701
I agree with Razorback, it is possible. IMHO it's not likely though that either the 747 or 777 will ever have insufficient bidders from either pre-merger group. We are all Delta pilots, new hires are just not part of a "pre-merger" group as mentioned in the Arbitration Award.
I think if you look at the language in the SLI award, it states that "no former Northwest pilot will be awarded a 777 position unless there are insuffcient bidders" or something of that nature. In other words it "fences out" the FNW pilots from the 777, rather than "fencing in" the FDAL pilots (and vice versa on the 747/787.) Since newhires are not FDAL or FNW - with that language, they would not be fenced out/off anything. Like others have said though, I doubt it becomes an issue.
And on answering the phone - remember, technically, you are NEVER required to answer your phone. (If you're on the john, they'd probably prefer you didn't, I'd wager.) You are, however, required to acknowledge assignments in a timely manner - the manner of timeliness depending on your call status. Long call, as others have said is NLT than three hours before report. With short call, you should probably return the call or acknowlege within 5 or 10 minutes. Otherwise you'll start getting them all riled up. I generally do try to talk to someone if the callout time is minimal, just to give them a realistic idea of when I'll get there. If they're calling for a trip that doesn't report for 5 hours, I'll generally acknowlege via automation as soon as I'm able.

Understand that if you are on SC and they assign you a trip that is close to departure, (Less than a few hrs) acknowledging it on the computer you are stating that you can get there by report time.
If that is an issue, make sure you cover your drive in by calling back or answering the phone.

Not always. I've had several trips assigned that they didn't call me about. They were on my schedule when I logged on to iCrew. I don't know how long they would let it sit on my schedule without me acknowledging it before they would call. It would really be nice if we got a text or email when something changed on our schedule.

You're right though - in the morning, when they are assigning trips for the next day, I won't get a call about the trip until later in the day. Fine with me, as the initial assignment is like 30 hours out.
I've had them call in the mid-afternoon for the next days trips, if I didn't ACK the trip in the morning.

Plus, there is probably some discussion with DALPA on whether a email or text message is actual notification or just a "heads up" as it regards to the contract.
