Have you checked out the new Telex Ascend? They look like the follow on to the 850. It could drive the price of the 850 down when the Ascend is available for sale. Or maybe you opt for the new model.

Heyas Gun,

Actually, I've played around with the Ascend. Here is my $0.02, (lowered to $0.01 due to "management of expectations"):

Pros:

Battery Powered. No more wondering if the ship will power the ANR.

Removable cord, and with the battery, you can use it as a plain old ANR set when deadheading.

ANR is slightly better...slightly.

Cons:

It has a battery. You have to charge it.

Lots of plastic. Bigger, bulkier than an 850.

HEAVY...seemed to me a lot heavier than a 850, and not near as comfy.

Honestly, if you have a consistent power source (IE your particualr AC puts out power at the mic plug), then the 850 still wins.

Thanks Nu. Haven't heard of the Ascend so appreciate the heads up. I really like the idea of not having a battery. Plus, I already have a nice set of Bose Q2s. I looked at a friend's who uses the UFlyMike and it looks nice, but the Bose is too large to uncover the inside ear. Looked uncomfortable for him during taxi ops and he just covered both ears during cruise......guess he got sick of my jokes

Soooooooooooo guess I'm still going for the 850s.......sometime

New Hire, how difficult would it be to commute from DFW? I know there are a lot of DAL pilots living in the metro area but is it possible or a living hell? Looking forward to being a bottom feeder.......

Don't forget all of the cat ranchers trying to commute from DFW as well. If the jumpseat is full, we have to all duke it out in back.

I have a question for the group. I should have a class date in October (can't wait to get official word). I have a very low SSN so I will be bottom feeding for my class assignment drop. I live in the Florida Panhandle and I'm trying to prioritize selection of domiciles. My first two choices will most likely be 1. Atlanta - because I can drive there. 2. Memphis- because it's a 1 hop commute. From there I would love to hear opinions. My biggest objectives are to keep the QOL as best I can as a first year probation pilot. My other objective is the ease of commute. Any opinions? -THANKS

For commuting, it's not about the actual distance (unless you are driving) but more about how many flt/what airline. What is the nearest airline airport?

When you mean low ssn, do you mean like 0020 or 9920? Because 9920 will be at the top of the class senority list and 0020 at the bottom.

Gonna fly out of Pensacola? I have a suggestion- move! It's brutal getting in and out of that place, especially during the times of the year when they dump the schedule to RJs except for one or two mainline.
