A quick check on flightaware confirms this...at least for the first leg. However I did notice AFW to ATL, MSP and LAX.
Just go back to the main page on APC and click on Cargo airlines in the top right corner and then find Fed Ex and scroll down to their jumpseat link and click on it and fill in the requested j/s info and it will tell you. Some times they stop once on the way to MEM. Or you can call the line at Fed Ex to check 1-866-357-5711. I use them all the time as I commute out of MEM and they are a GREAT backup for late releases. Good Luck

BTW, can new-hires bid the 777 on the current AE?
Don't know about the Mac stuff, but YES to the 777 question.

777....hmm hadn't thought about that. I would imagine that if there were any vacancies following fDAL and fNWA pilots, then yes you could be the bottom feeder. Probably not bad if you don't want to fly your first year, but I think they can extend your probation if you don't have a certain number of hours.

Any one care to chime in on the hours requirement?

Per the PWA probation last 400 hrs OR 12 months. So if you bust you butt in six months and get 400 hrs you get off probation at six months. If not you are on probation for 12 months.

Sounded like lots of good advice for the DFW commuter. I need similar opinions. I'm newly AF retired and live in Tucson. We're not leaving anytime soon due to wife's job and house value. I'll be #1 in class for seniority. I was thinking ATL would be easiest commute followed by MEM(FEDEX). I also have PHX as a backup but don't want to make a habit of driving there. I'd appreciate input to easiest new hire bases to commute to.

FedEx is great to js on. Just remember if you are new and junior in base with weekend schedules and holidays, FedEx doesn't opperate during these times from a lot of airports. Could make the commute hard if you fall on the wrong day.

Yep, DFW is sporty about eight or nine months a year. Add to it that AMR cancels a lot and throws pax on DAL all of the time, AAI does not have an interline agreement with DAL or AMR so that helps, slightly.

(They canceled their agreements a few years back :AAI)

Yup. If you're junior you'll be working weekends on reserve. I recommend bidding to start on Friday or Saturday so you can commute on Thursday or Friday, or even Saturday morning. It may be necessary for you to go into base even on long call on a Saturday because it's often a reduced schedule so there are less flights. So if you are called at 1800 for a 0600 or 0800 report you may not make it to work because often by that time the last flight of the night is gone and the first flight the next morning won't get in soon enough. Bid where you can have the most flights available. MEM is tough because it's almost all RJs, & ATL is tough because it has a lot of commuters. Keep in mind FedEx/UPS don't operate weekend flights out of some cities so they aren't always available for those all night flights to get you in to base when you miss the last flight of the day.

Commuting on Southwest out of PHX to MSP or DTW should be a good option as well.

Hi Columbia...Congrats on joining the team. Good news & bad news. Good news 1st - I'm running a Macbook Pro w/ Snow Leopard. I bought MSW 98 @ Fry's - the one that you buy if you're building your own computer ($90.) Go into Finder=>Applications=>Utilities=>Boot Camp Utilities. Print the instructions and run it. Use a minimum of 15G. I used 15 and wish I did 20, but everything works just fine. You will also be able to download and run PBS Desktop (bidding program.) Now you can work on bid when not online. Very handy of you commute.

Bad news - You can bid anything you want once on board. Heck - why stop @ the 777....Bid the 747-400. As previously stated...you'll get the bid once the other 12,000+ guys & gals don't bid it. Just kidding. Enjoy your stoke and lets hope the hiring continues!

Baja.
