I was reading the headset posts, and have a question for you guys. I haven't owned a headset since I started at my current regional. I just always used the ones in the airplane. Aren't the airplanes at Delta stocked with headsets to use? I know they have to have one for the JS, but for the crew as well? I just would rather not have to buy an expensive headset and then tote it around and most likely lose it at some point. So assuming they have headsets available, do many people just use the airplane headsets? thanks

They have headsets on the aircraft. I've seen a bunch of folks who chose not to buy one. I like mine, but in hindsight, with all that you have to buy in your first year, the headset could be put off.

On the NWA jets they have the Telex 750, and on the DAL jets they have the DC Clamps hence the reason to have your own headset.

That's how I figured it too... now I'm in my third year still using those old DCs. Oh well, I take it off passing 18K and prefer to use the mic. Someday I'll spend the cash. I really like the uflymikes. I saw one Capt use it since I've been at Delta. He said if he had the FAA on the jumpseat he would just wear the DC's... but now that they are TSO'd I'm pretty tempted because NC is great for a commuter to drown out those crying babies!

The airplanes have headsets, sure, but on my aircraft (757/767, mostly Delta-south airplanes) they headset is the David Clark, one ear headset. Not very comfortable - so I bought one a Telex 750 off ebay. Works great.

The Delta-north airplanes were outfitted with some version of the Telex headset, so most of the ex-NWA pilots don't seem to own a headset. Also, the Airbuses seems required an adapter or a different type of headset plug than the Boeings.

I would just wait and see what aircraft you get. North plane..use the airplane headset......South Plane...buy your own and write it off. Personally though, I like having my own so I don't share someone else's germs. I use the Telex 750 that I purchased on Ebay.

I bought my telex 850 off e-bay and paid 300 bucks and it still had 2 years left on the warrenty. E-bay is the way to go.

I just got the uflymike and love it. Battery on the Bose kinda sucks as it only lasted one four day trip last month before the blinking light started, but I'm trying to get more and more Capts to go hot mike, what a difference it makes.

What ACL said is right. When I was on the 88 everyone had their own headset because those DC clamps are big and probably full of some disease that originated in ATL and will kill you. I think I saw one guy use the DC clamps during my three years there. On the 320 everyone uses the Telex 750's on the airplane. The only complaint I have about the 320 headsets is they are usually bent up so they are not very comfortable and the foam mic cap is missing on all of them so you get a little "mic spit" feedback over the hot-mic. I've thought about getting my own 850's, but then I would just have to carry a headset again.....it's nice having one less thing to pack up and stick in the bag when you switch AC.
