I'm a new hire (Jul 14) with a Sept 27 class date. I'm retiring from the AF after 22 years. For the military retirees out there, I'm planning to turn down Survivor Benefit Plan. That means I need life insurance. I assume that DAL has a group life insurance plan. Does anyone know where I can get details on it prior to getting to class? My official retirement date is Sept 30 which means that by then I need to have decided what life insurance to go with. Any accurate information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Rick,
DAL will have an HR rep come in to INDOC and show you all of the health insurance and benefit plans. Per our Pilot agreement DAL provides a half of million in life insurance to you immediately. If you opt to there are options for up to I beleive another million in coverage.
Do not worry, all of DAL's HR stuff is done on-line and you will have the option to add these when you get hired. Open enrollment will be in Oct for the 2011 benefit year as well.
Welcome aboard.

Yeah, I'm wondering what the cost is. I assume that I can't beat the cost on my own which means I go with the Delta plan. If that's a bad assumption, I would need to arrange for insurance beforehand(or take the risk for the uncovered period before getting it).

Rick,
What I think you're asking about is Life insurance. If its whether or not to take TRICARE, take TRICARE everyday and twice on Sundays (YMMV). I retired in 08 and have Uncle Sugar's medical but DAL's Dental and Vision. If the question is indeed about VGLI or DAL's plan, there will be some there to go over this in indoc and you have I think 120 days from retirement until SGLI drops.
As to the SBP, every situation is unique. I talked mine over with my finanical adviser and the NMA rep at the retirement (TAP) class. Decided to go with the child only option based on my situation.
Get to the proper number of posts and send me a PM or try to send one to ACL or another mod and maybe they can send to me. Will be happy to help.

Welcome Aboard... you can pick me out because of my long beard and plain clothing:
Of course that was back in the "Dark Ages!"
