You cannot opt out of the Delta plan. It automatically comes out of your check.

Dragon, thanks for the info. For my situation, I've decided that SBP is not for us. I'm going to get term life insurance. I'll check again to see if SGLI goes for an additional 120 days after retirement. If so, problem solved. I can just wait for indoc.

How...

Also, if you can't opt out of the DAL life insurance, most likely the problem is solved.

Well, DAL provides the base level I discussed as part of the pilot contract. Any other life insurance is at your cost. You can opt out of DAL's Health insurance etc. Many do.

I would guess that most/many have spouses with better plans.

I retired from the AF at the end of 07. I do have SBP and TriCare. I went with Delta's dental and vision also. For life insurance we get $500,000 paid for by Delta as part of our contract. We get taxed on the value of that. For additional coverage I went with AAFMAA. It was the lowest cost life insurance I could find. I had VGLI for a bit but dropped it for the AAFMAA coverage. PM when you can if you have questions.
