Muslim is not an ethnicity. It is a religion that has waged wars of conversion or death against the rest of civilization since its inception. There are Arab Muslims, Asian Muslims, Black Muslims, Islander Muslims, and white Muslims; all of whom have been converted by the sword.

And Christianity has been perfectly well balanced and forgiving? Don't forget that just as many wars have been started in the name of Christ or God. If you doubt it, do some research on the crusades or read the old testament.

I amazes me that people can make blanket statements about one religion without knowing a thing about that particular religion. Saying that all muslims are waging wars in the name of their religion is like saying all christians burn crosses while wearing white robes and hoods.

Actually, az's post was right on.

Why do you reach back 1400 years to the crusades?? First of all, the crusades were STARTED by MUSLIMS who invaded Christian lands. So the Christian involvement was defensive, not offensive. Second, anyone who wages war in the name of Christ is not representative of Christianity. Just compare their actions to what Christ taught and you will see for yourself.

Do you really want to go into the Old Testament? Sure, wars were waged in the Old Testaments, but they weren't started with the intent of converting people to believe in God. And if you look into the New Testament, you will see that war is preached NOT to be a method of conversion and that innocent people are not to be killed in the name of Jesus.

From a Biblical perspective, war is not glorified, but it is JUSTIFIED in and under certain cases, both in the Old and New Testaments. What the Bible does not teach is to wage war for sake of waging war or for the sake of using it as a tool for conversion.

Islam is a lot different. They DO convert by the sword. If you don't believe me then go to a country such as Saudi Arabia or Indonesia and try to convert people peacefully to any other religion. Do you know what the penalty under Islamic law is for trying to convert someone to Christianity? It is death.

While history is certainly important and often relevant, events which occured hundreds or thousands of years ago have no direct bearing on air carrier security today...

Islam is the only major religion that I am aware of which is currently condoning, preaching, supporting, and instigating overt hostile acts and terrorism.

Things are complicated since there is no single church hierearchy in islam, so your mileage may vary depending on which group of muslims you happen to be dealing with...many are totally above-board, peaceful, and law-abiding, but a many are not.

We don't want to paint an entire demographic with the same brush, but common sense dictates that you have to look where the smoke is to find the fire...

As for not being born in the US, there are plenty of people that hold prominent positions in American society... should we hold them under suspicion as well just because they are "naturalized" citizens? (Here are a few prominent naturalized citizens: Arnold Schwartzenegger, Madeleine Albright, Isaac Asimov, Pierce Brosnan, Alexander Graham Bell, Dave Matthews, Henry Kissinger, the list goes on)

Although I have never flown with him, I know Faisal personally (we were coworkers at ACA/Independence)- he was a friendly person as well as a hard worker. I have also talked to those who have flown with him and they say he is a capable pilot. I don't see him as being one to pull the "race" card, unless it's justified.

Either way, I'm going to reserve judgement on either party (him or JetBlue) until I know more, than a two paragraph AP article...

Well stated.

So...what do we do? Close our borders and set up internment camps?

As far as your comment about being at war...as a former US Army combat soldier, I'm well aware of our overseas commitment to eradicating terrorism and keeping our country FREE.

reading some of the posts in this thread has been a very disturbing reality. the close minded mentality and simple lack of any educated insight is disturbing. red dog and all the others, get off the war ticket, if we are at war then this "war" is one that will never end. god bless you and every other soldier for your service, myself and every other american can not thank you enough.

terrorism isnt a new thing, its been around for about as long as civilization has. we aren't even fighting "terrorists" in iraq anymore we are fighting gangsters. if we were to invade compton or some other ghetto in the US and fight the bloods and crypts would that be a war on terrorism, and if so then why are we not doing that.

its so simple to forget that at one point our ancestors were all immigrants. that is what this country is founded on, and thats what makes it the greatest nation in the world, that people can come here from all over the world and have a better opportunity than their homeland.

people commenting on what islam about, saying that its a religion that "converts" by the sword and preaches violence. that is the biggest bunch of bull****, and the most unintelligent comment you could make. quite the contrary, its just as peaceful a religion as christianity. these terrorists and fundamentalist muslims, the religion they preach is such a ridiculous extreme and so far outside of mainstream islam, no different than the fundamentalist christianity thats rampant in this country. the world is all about balance, theres a yin and a yang to everything. for all the extremist muslims theres just as extreme a christian, heck the klu klux klan has roots in religion, they too used terrorism as a form of achieving their goals. i happen to have tons of friends who are muslim, not one of them agrees with the fundamentalist mentality the extremists preach. they are good people just like you and me, and wouldnt wish harm on anyone, and thats what their religion teaches.

until we as a society can get to a point where we are willing to accept people for who they are how they look and what they believe in our society will not make any further social progress. we are too smart as human beings to judge people based on where they were born, remember they didnt choose that. start educating yourself as to where people come from and the positive things they might bring to the table before you make such idiotic comments.

being an american brings with it responsibility, one of them being to further the great ideals that this country was founded on, the freedoms that we enjoy that the vast majority of people in this world could only dream of.

A war on terrorism is idiotic. It is cowardly not to name our enemy, in fact the enemy of all civilization. Terrorim is the method used by them. It is like declaring war against blitzkrieg or a war against strategic boming. The enemy is "radical" islamic people and nations. Name them, declare war, and eliminate the threat.

The Crusades took place after the Muslim invasion of western europe, which reached its pinnacle at the battle of Tours, France in 732. Less than 100 years after the inception of the religion the Mohammedian whodes were swarming over the world.

The Muslim "extrimists" do not discriminate. They murder Christians, Hindus, Taoists, Buddists, Jews, and atheists. Most of the wars in the world involve Muslims. From the Phillipenes to Africa to Chechnya to India Islam is beeing spread by the sword. To call it a religion in the sense as the others is offensive.

Call me closed minded if you will. I am not open minded to the point of national suicide.
