Default There are alternatives Skywriting

Do you think pilots and flt crews should go through the same BS as pax???

Could you think of any other possibilities??

Did you know ramp personnel do not go through security checkpoints at most airports?

Are you going to repurchase toiletries at every overnight or delay all of your flights waiting for your checked bag?

I have a bad feeling this profession is made up of many folks who will do anything that is asked and not demand common sense out of their mgmt/govt.

[From another forum, but worth reposting here]

I wonder who was planning on blowing up the planes???

Could it have been a group of cheese salesmen from Wisconsin????

Perhaps a group of pastors coming back from touring old churches in Europe????

A basketball team from New York????

A group of Boy Scouts and their leaders returning from an international jamboree???

Some Swedish models????

Retired Americans coming home from a dream vacation overseas????

Oh I know a group of business men coming back after wrapping up a lucrative merger deal with a British Corporation???

Might it have been people from Hollywood returning to the US after checking out a location to shoot a film???

A group of high school students traveling as part of an educational tour that they had bake sales and car washes for a year to pay for??

Cricket fans???

Soccer fans???

Newlyweds returning from their honeymoon???

Active duty military personnel returning to the United States from overseas???

Perhaps medical researchers traveling to the US to work on a project to cure or treat some horrible disease???

Might be some of those crazy b@astards who work on new computer and communications technology???

Perhaps some Americans returning to the US via LHR from a visit to friends and family living in Israel???

A group of golfers returning to the US after playing on some of the famous golf courses in the UK????

Oh I know some 85 year old WW II vets coming back from a tour of the beaches they last visited 60 years ago?? Some of those guys are still suffering from PTS, might be them???

How about some kids from BYU coming back from a year of doing mission work overseas???

I wonder???? Does anyone want to speculate what group of individuals would be plotting to blow up a bunch of aircraft traveling from Great Britain to the United States???? The possibilities are endless and the choices so broad. I have mentioned just about all the groups I could think of.

Can anyone come with another group of individuals who execute and plan 99% of the terrorism (cowardism) that plagues the world???

I certainly hope the investigators do not target a specific ethnic background or members of a certain religion. The suicide bombers could be anyone, from any religion or ethnic group, it would be unfair to profile anyone and make security so much less efficient...

An email from my CP confirmed that we are exempt from the liquid/gel ban. I'm somewhat shocked at this totally unprovoked display of rational thought process on the part of the TSA....

I agree; I'm sure carry-ons will be banned at some point soon anyway - why not just do it now so 1-everyone just gets used to it and 2-faster boarding, no one whining when their bag doesnt fit overhead

Default From the TSA web site

Threat Level Change for the Aviation Sector

Fact Sheet
Guidance For Airline Passengers

Raised Threat Levels:
The U.S. threat level is raised to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights flying from the United Kingdom to the United States.
The U.S. threat level is raised to High, or Orange, for all commercial aviation operating in the United States, including international flights. Flights from the United States to the United Kingdom are also Orange.
Increased Aviation Screening Procedures:
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing a series of security measures, some visible and some not visible, to ensure the security of the traveling public and the nation's transportation system.
TSA is immediately implementing the following changes to airport screening procedures:
NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE.
SUCH ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE. This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency.
Exceptions: Baby formula and medicines, which must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.
Beverages purchased in the boarding area, beyond the checkpoint, must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.
Passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States will be subject to a more extensive screening process.
These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated as circumstances warrant.
How every passenger can assist in security:
  • Pack lightly, without clutter, to facilitate easier screening.
  • Arrive earlier than usual at the airport.
  • Cooperate with TSA personnel at checkpoints and with airline personnel at all gates.
  • Be attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity and report it to authorities.
Increased Border Protection Procedures:
U.S. Customs and Border Protection will increase enforcement efforts in international arrival areas including the use of advanced targeting tools, special response teams including baggage and aircraft search teams, baggage x-ray equipment, specially-trained canine units, and explosive detection technology.
DHS has also mandated that all flights from the United Kingdom transmit passenger manifest information for intensive screening prior to departure from the gate. In addition, passengers on these flights and all other international flights will be subject to heightened inspection upon arrival in the United States.

I love the smoke and mirrors.

I've already said my piece on this over at Jetcareers.

Another knee-jerk reaction due to the FBI, NSA, CIA, DHS, insufficient protection of citizens.

Fly less, drive more...sorry folks, that's my honest feeling. And every hour that the TSA adds to my trip, I'll drive 50-100 miles further.

As it is now, I will drive 450 (definately) to 600 miles (depends) before I fly.

It's about time somebody said it. When do we put aside PC bullsh!t and do something that might actually strengthen security. Profiling is needed. There are many gaping holes in avaition security, but closing one of them would be a much-needed miracle. I hope (but I'm not counting on it) somebody at TSA/DHS will get off their @ss and start doing something to fix it.

Yeah its all smoke and mirrors. Oh wait, there's 24 people in custody in the UK who were planning on bringing explosive components in common houshold liquid containiners and mixing them on a plane. And Eight missing Eygyptian students in the US who just decided not to show up for there classes.

And this

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache...&ct=clnk&cd=19

And this

But I am sure the evil emperor W is just pulling the strings of these wackadoos to allow us to go to war in the Middle east for oil.

Oh wait, I thought he was a chimp. Is he machavellian evil incarnate, or a stooge for big oil today?
