Sun Country Hiring?
Heard some rumors Sun Country might start hiring. Anyone know more info about this?
Does Sun Country commonly hire only to furlough a few months later? Hows the QOL and feeling over there in the pilot group? Good place to work?

You never know though. Getting an extra plane, or if there's some no-show's in the Oct 20th class could change things. I used to work there and it was a great place to work. You always worry about stability (hence why I left) but it was good.

They're not really interested in any more -700's. They would like a couple more -800's if they can find the lift for them. They're looking for more military contracts, preferably to use their new ETOPS cert on. Or anywhere else they can turn over a rock and find some ad hoc flying. The good thing is their CEO has pretty much stated they can't support the small fleet size, so I'm sure at some point they'll attempt to grow.

That was a good place to get training and time in type. Sun Country will probably do the same.

As long as it is known upfront and some imaginary carrot isn't dangled in front of someone then I don't see a problem with it. If you happen to come out the other end of the season with some specialized training that might help you in the future then it really seems like a win situation (other than I'm sure some would rather the job be permanent of course)

So has Sun Country been known to do this in the past? If you are just looking at getting some specialized training / experience... does Sun Country give their newhire FOs PIC 737 types?

Nope, they used to but the contract says you can only be trained and checked in the position you hold. A specific Captain filed a grievence because they were qualifiying him on SIC too. So the result is: no more PIC types. With their new emergence into ETOPS and international that could always change (but I wouldn't hold my breath).

BTW the business model of flexing up for the winter vacations with temporary jets has lost much of it's proffitability. I know they're trying to get out of it and just find the flying for a fleet of permanent airplanes. I would doubt they'll go back to the furlough in the summer mode they've previously done.
