BTW, who do you fly for and how long have you been there?
I said the same thing 10 years ago when I had a DB plan worth $1.4 Million at the time.
Think it can't happnen to you?
So did I.

I flew the Emireates A380 sim in Dubai on a layover, hated it.
No "Feel" what so ever, it was like flying a desktop sim. I am a simple cave man, your (Airbus) modern ways confuse and frighten me! If it paid the same, I'd still be flying a J3 Cub!

I have Zero desire to fly for anyone. Now if I could just get them to pay me more and work me less, so I could spend every day sailing, or flying a Cub on floats, I'd be a whole lot happier!
The Problem is, They expect you to actually SHOW UP if you want to get paid!
Damn it to hell!

Plus there is the intense dislike of living in Dubai.
It seems to boil down to pilots getting suckered in by the generous pay and company benefits, but later seeing that they are totally without many of the career protections they enjoy in the EU and US.

Generally, the lack of union protection, FAA protection (for the US folks), and concerns about the longevity of the airline.

In another thread you said this:
Ain't hard to connect the dots. What's your favorite color, green or red?

Just think this guy will be retiring in only 25 years!
Talk about lightning fast career progression.

Be very careful when chasing upgrade times if that is your biggest concern as to where to work. 25 years ago I had a friend who turned down American to go to Piedmont, because... "I'll be a 737 Captain in 3 Years!!" (He's still an F/O, 25 years later, at US Air)
Another friend who also turned down American back then, to go to People Express, also because he wanted the quick upgrade. He was nearly holding 727 Capt. when they were bought and stapled to the bottom of CAL's list, he quit and went to NWA, retired as a DC-9 Capt.
Another friend went to Eastern, for a quick upgrade...he sells boats today.
Another went to Pan Am for a quick upgrade, by 1992 he was selling real estate.
Another turned down Delta in 1986 to go to TWA...for a quick upgrade. Ended up flying flying full time in the Guard.
Two more friends both went to AA back then (one in 1984, the other in 1986) both are flying 767 ER Capt. today...and they still have their retirements. No ALPA carrier does.
When I was "Shopping" for my Airline Pilot job, I wanted to work at the most financially stable airline, so I wouldn't have to worry about looking for another job, long term. The "Rumor" of the day back then, (1985) was eventually there would be only 3 Majors; American, UAL and DAL. Being from New Hampshire, I had never even heard of South West...and they only fly 737's anyway, so who wants to fly for them, right? WRONG.
Now, 26 years later, I'm at DAL. I can say I might have done "Better" at AA or SWA, or if I had stayed on flying freight at night I might have been hired early on at UPS, or Fed EX. So, you can never be certain, but chasing upgrades is futile in this industry, as soon as you think you have it figured out, it will change!
If I were starting over today, I'd be looking at Emirates, with 90 A380's coming, well, somebody's got to fly them!
