When are the Major Airline Retirements ?

While your point regarding pay is correct, you last line imo reflects poorly.
You weren't even 26 when you hired on here, and you came from a regional. There's a whole lot of people in the regional ranks with way more airline experience than you whose timing, support of a strike, or run-in with a rogue manager didn't allow them to get hired here. Your "varsity" comment in my view is contemptible.
Where's Bar to throw the "unity" word around?

Quite the arrogant/dick-ish thing to say out of someone who was oh so young, as well as oh so fortunate to be at the right place, right time, and have the kind of career progression they did. Without putting in anywhere near the equity/effort or deal with the setbacks that many others did to get to the same place. Humility can go a long way.

I was out of line with the last statement. I get up in arms when someone tries to justify staying at an outsourced company vs. making the move (there are some situations where it is justifiable to stay, but not many) Sorry guys.
Time for the cone of shame.

There are furloughees coming back under age 40. The chances for upgrade at AA are not good within a decade, and I'd expect all pilots over 60 to stay until 65. So far, that is what has been occuring.

With comments such as what you made, this old man's "varsity" doesn't need you. The "cone-of-shame" is small potatoes relative to a good dose of personal maturity.

Be very careful when chasing upgrade times if that is your biggest concern as to where to work. 25 years ago I had a friend who turned down American to go to Piedmont, because... "I'll be a 737 Captain in 3 Years!!" (He's still an F/O, 25 years later, at US Air)
Another friend who also turned down American back then, to go to People Express, also because he wanted the quick upgrade. He was nearly holding 727 Capt. when they were bought and stapled to the bottom of CAL's list, he quit and went to NWA, retired as a DC-9 Capt.
Another friend went to Eastern, for a quick upgrade...he sells boats today.
Another went to Pan Am for a quick upgrade, by 1992 he was selling real estate.
Another turned down Delta in 1986 to go to TWA...for a quick upgrade. Ended up flying flying full time in the Guard.
Two more friends both went to AA back then (one in 1984, the other in 1986) both are flying 767 ER Capt. today...and they still have their retirements. No ALPA carrier does.
When I was "Shopping" for my Airline Pilot job, I wanted to work at the most financially stable airline, so I wouldn't have to worry about looking for another job, long term. The "Rumor" of the day back then, (1985) was eventually there would be only 3 Majors; American, UAL and DAL. Being from New Hampshire, I had never even heard of South West...and they only fly 737's anyway, so who wants to fly for them, right? WRONG.
Now, 26 years later, I'm at DAL. I can say I might have done "Better" at AA or SWA, or if I had stayed on flying freight at night I might have been hired early on at UPS, or Fed EX. So, you can never be certain, but chasing upgrades is futile in this industry, as soon as you think you have it figured out, it will change!
If I were starting over today, I'd be looking at Emirates, with 90 A380's coming, well, somebody's got to fly them!

Recent retirees had 25% over 60. Almost every month we have Age 60+ guys leaving. Small numbers but they're leaving.
The majority have left prior to Age 60 and the number staying to 65 is unknown but it's not 'all'.

Fishfreighter, I'm happy for you. Seriously, I am, I wish it were so for all of us. But there are only a few Legacy ALPA carriers who still have a (non-bankrupt) retirement plan.
My point is: In this line of work, the only thing constant is change. What looks like a Sure Thing today, might put you on the unemployment line by next year. You have to step back and take a good, long term, look around. In the next 25 years, I see a whole lot of growth in the 3rd. world, and who is going to fly there? A US Carrier, or Emirates?
