Delta getting close to fleet renewal order
According to Reuters:
Now a bit of wild speculation ... Republic wants to be rid of Frontier. Movement of management types between companies suggests Pinnacle is in play. Compass has a small EMB175 fleet. Look at the stock of those two and tell me something is not correlating.
Delta may very well split their order.
Delta will decide on plane order by year-end
NEW YORK | Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:07am EDT
(Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL.N) will make a decision on buying planes by the end of the year, its chief executive said on Thursday.
"We'll make a fleet decision by the end of the year on mid-body replacement," CEO Richard Anderson said, adding that the decision would likely come before the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday in late November.
He cited some weakness in the U.S. economy but said Delta's forward bookings look strong.
"We're seeing some softening in the economy ... the indicators aren't what you would like them to be," Anderson told reporters after the company's annual shareholder meeting. He said Europe's economy was where he sees the most weakness.
Delta, the No. 2 air carrier behind United Continental Holdings (UAL.N), said earlier this week it expects a "solidly profitable" second quarter as higher revenues have for the most part offset rising fuel costs.
The airline sent a request to several plane makers late last year for proposals to deliver up to 200 planes to replace aging models. Possible orders could include large, medium and small single-aisle planes to be used on U.S. routes, Delta said earlier this year.
The head of Brazilian plane maker Embraer's (EMBR3.SA) commercial aviation unit told Reuters last week at the Paris Air Show that he saw "good chances" of firm orders from Delta this year.

You saying F9's airbuses come to DL?
Think DL finally exercises its options on the Embraers?
How does Pinnacle factor in?

Former Frontier Airlines boss Sean Menke will succeed Phil Trenary as CEO of Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines, the regional carrier announced in late May. A managing partner at Denver-based Vista Strategic Group, Menke assumes his new duties on July 1. Trenary resigned his position on March 24, leaving interim leadership of the company to chairman of the board Donald Breeding. Menke also becomes a member of the company’s board of directors.
Menke, 42, brings 20 years of airline management experience to Pinnacle. He previously served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Republic Airways and president and CEO of Republic subsidiary Frontier Airlines.

The shares were moving together on Monday. PNCL moved back to its normal range on Tuesday.
I'm probably wrong ... it was just a speculative guess. I do think Delta will split its order though.

Richard Anderson showed up at Delta, then we know what happened next. Then you also have Republic's management negotiating a deal with Frontier's pilots to divest Frontier and making a nonsensical airplane order for two almost identical competing jets.

Well, he's a Frontier turn around expert, right?
I expect part of Delta's planned fleet renewal will not be flown by Delta. While mainline has mostly stagnated we've been pretty active in the acquisition of large RJ lift, even fairly recently.
