Sky Talk: Delta to add non-stop DFW-LGA routes

Delta to add non-stop DFW-LGA routes

Striking while the iron is hot -- that meaning American Airlines in bankruptcy -- Delta Airlines announced today that it is adding six non-stop flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth and New York's LaGuardia Airport beginning March 25.

The new round-trip offerings come as a direct result of Delta and US Airways swapping landing slots at LaGuardia and Reagan National. Delta said it will add 100-plus flights and 29 destinations out of LaGuardia.

One of American's problems in the last couple of years, according to analysts, is that the company has lost market share in New York to its leaner-meaner competitors after they have gone through reorganization. Delta's new DFW-LGA routes won't help any.

Flights won't begin until March but they will be available for booking online beginning tomorrow (Dec. 17). The flights will be on 70-passenger Embraer jets with six first-class seats.

Delta is also going to beef up service out of New York's JFK on some critical routes, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

- Bob Cox

That sure is one long flight for a "regional jet"

A RJ between NYC and Dallas, who would ever have thought. Sad.

Six first seats seems light if nothing else.

NOT proud of it, but UNITED is planning to draw first blood on adding MORE EWR-DFW segments

While using it's newly found "Northern Hemisphere RJ", starting January 2012 "United" (a'la SkyWest) will be running the CRJ-700 with weekend service on it's 4:10+ block to the big "D" while offering 1-2 RJ flights a day.

UFB.

Compass flies that all day and night! DFW-DTW; DFW-MSP; LGA will b nothing. EMB-175 Wait till contract negotiations sell the scope out for the 190 or Mitsubishi 100 seat RJ. Fill the 1st class seats and the flight is paid in full.

DFW-DTW: approx @980NM
-VS-
DFW-EWR/LGA: approx @1370-ishNM

Where do you draw the line?? Rest my case, "Northern Hemisphere RJ".

Gordon Bethune speaking on the mismanaged "Pre-Gordo" era. Will the current Mgt's heed such an analogy, or will they come full circle to the times of the past??

"Wait a minute. It ain’t all about the lowest cost'. Let’s say that you would reduce the cost of your pizza by doing something smart like taking the cheese off? How many pizzas are you going to sell? Can you make a pizza so cheap that nobody will eat it? Can you make an airline so cheap nobody will fly it? We did it."

Delta customers love the RJs, especially on long legs. It's the year of the customers you know. Next year is the year of the CEO. It goes in cycles.

When I flew for Comair we flew JFK-AUS, JFK-DFW, and JFK-IAH on the CRJ-900. They are all too long for an rj, especially JFK-AUS that was blocked at 4:20. The only good thing was you could take a full load of people and a full tank of gas an not be weight restricted.

It seems like anytime Delta adds a new route it is always rj service.
