There could be manly reasons. It might be they plan on using the mainline for the replacement lift and want to know their costs. It could be they want to use larger RJ's. The post in question however said that Bastion stated that as a fact. He made no such statement at all.

Delta management wants more RJs
Sailing.... Go to minute 19:50 of the webcast that Ed just did on May 17. You can hear the words from his mouth.... He said the primary reason for the early deal with the pilots was to accelerate the RJ parking and get more. Here's the link. Webcasts Go to the May 17 webcast.

i listened to the broadcast. No where does he say they plan is to get more. You should go back and listen again. He only states they plan to get rid of small rj's to help in the fuel cost area. He does state they did the deal early with us to help in that but nothing is said about getting more larger rj's.

What are the chances of JetBlue being involved somehow? There has been a lot coming from JetBlue's management team that to me, suggests there is something going on. I think JetBlue is getting set up for a acquisition, or possibly a big-time code share (the "new" regional airline of the future). My initial belief was that B6 was going to have a full-blown code share with American, but US Air's bid may (or may not) change that. Now, I wonder if Delta can use JetBlue to basically cripple any chance of American and/or US Air gaining any kind of traction in any major market, plus gain an even stronger hold on NY, plus the Boston and the Carribean markets. B6's stock is dirt cheap, which leads me to believe that could have sped up negotiations, in addition to get a first mover advantage over American.

It's pretty simple. The union has released multiple bullet points (some detailed some not).
1. Whenever talking about scope the language always gets very cryptic. "Production balances" and "block hour measurements" which we are being told is the most important way to look at this. Nothing noting the risks of sending larger airplanes to the regional's that can more easily replace mainline.
2. Given multiple chances for DALPA to state outright that we aim to bring regional jet flying back to mainline and not allow more large RJ's all we hear is the sound of crickets. Btw, stating this is the goal would not break any NDA's.
3. In yesterdays conference call, Ed referenced no major/minor pulldown in outsourced RJ flying. Does someone here have the exact wording? Basically he alluded to shoring up the economics of the outsourced flying. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what he is talking about given all the other signs we have recently seen.
I love optimists but I also like people who are pro-active. Not idly waiting to push the power up/nose down as the airplane gets further behind the power curve with the stall warning blaring in the background. That doesn't work for me....but I am only one small part of this big puzzle.

While I'm as anxious as the rest of you to see the TA I'm encouraged by the fact that the MEC is meeting every day (including through the weekend) to tear this thing apart. Remember, they have a whole bunch of subject matter experts (Retirement, Health Care, Work Rules, etc) to help them interpret the new contract. Lest we forget, our current PWA (with all the integrated LOAs) is 500 pages. I wouldn't want to cast a vote yea or nay without reading it through at least once. While I'm cautiously optimistic I believe this contract is very borderline (positives and negatives), not a slam dunk either way, and it's going to be very close as to whether it passes (although I think the MEC does want a consensus that either passes with a vast majority of the MEC and they can get behind it once passes (warts and all) or a unanimous rejection to send back to the NC and the company. It's also possible they're trying to tweak some of the areas to make them a little better. They really don't want to take a chance of sending it for Memrat and losing 51-49. They need to believe that they can get a minimum of 60% (preferably 65-70) before sending it forward. While I originally thought we would see it today it looks like they're going to take the full 7 days - I guess we'll all have to be patient.

I'm in absolutely no hurry. The company may be, but we're not.
All indications from the FPL collectors here signal that we won't have to read beyond Section I anyway.
