From: DOWNGRADE COMPLETE: Thanks Gary. Thanks SWAPA.
We're you a valujet guy or are you just the type of person AT hired? No wonder they never called anyone I would consider a friend.
If you don't want your job, quit. There are plenty of us regional guys/gals that would gladly take it, given the chance. No one here cares to hear your drivel any longer.
Welcome to my ignore list.

Also, I get tired of being told to show up with a happy face and become a good employee. I already am a good employee. In spite of all the frustration on this side, AT continues to perform. SWA set records with the latest OTP numbers - 85% IIRC. AT's was 94%. Bag handling...SWA is not even close to AT. Don't forget about that #1 AQR rating we have too. So maybe instead of the condescending tone, you need to work a little harder and rise up to AT performance standards.

This is NOT flame bait. I work for SWA and I'm happy here.
A very young and junior FO recently raised a good point. He said he's looking to bail to Delta when they start hiring. He said he's looking at a 19 year upgrade at SWA vs 12 at Delta. Plus Delta has widebody flying and (soon) a widebody payscale. The two biggest draws of SWA have always been the fast upgrade and great culture. Both are now gone (yes, the SWA culture is dead).
So, is SWA still a top choice for future applicants? Opinions?

The junior FO's observation you posted are interesting IMO.
I go back to when I was hired at UAL in the mid 90's. I'm a voluntary furlough if you are curious. I turned down both SWA and DAL in favor of UAL. It was the right decision at that time, for me, and I was fortunate to have that decision to make.
The 3 airlines each had their pros and cons. Just like any airline today. Although they all, even SWA, have more cons than pros in today's environment, one has to go with what they think the best career decision will be at the time. That is of course having NO idea what will happen 1, 5, 10, etc., years down the road.
In my new hire class at UAL, I had 2 former SWA pilots. I also saw a few friends leave SWA to come to UAL as well as a couple of DAL guys during my first year. Go figure.
Want to bet that if they had it to do over again, those guys would have not left their former airline for UAL?
Hindsight is 20/20. While the FO's points are perhaps valid, I hope he remembers that the grass may not truly be greener when all is said and done.
Making a career decision such as leaving SWA would be a hard one in my book. They may not be the same company they were 20 years ago, but neither is any other carrier.
Looking only at upgrade potential might make one want to make a jump to a perceived better opportunity. Perhaps it will work out....perhaps not. Perhaps SWA has met their maximum potential in the domestic market. ETC.
The fact is, what we see today and think tomorrow will be can change. UAL went from a pretty functional company that was kind of fun to work for to what it is today. In my early years, we had 3 year Captains, and so on.
Things change........
Bottom line, "love the one you're with." If you can't, then make the move. Just realize that nothing is guaranteed.

JD, I hear and read that sentiment a lot. The actions of your management team demonstrate otherwise. So which is it? EVERY AirTran person would like to know.

Having just flown on AT on vacation (bought my tickets) I was very satisfied. We have a lot to learn from one another. Please don't try to say that everything you are doing is perfect, it is not! You can ask my wife. She personally hates our (SWA's) boarding system. Yours (assigned seats) has some advantages but don't think everything you are doing is all that.

Your (ours) FA's were great on the return flight but not so great on the initial flight. My wife is all about first impressions and luckily I passed. So rising up to standards is a personal decision. As I said we have many things to learn from one another. The sooner we learn those things the better.

BTW,
Given that one of the AT folks was late to intial IOE the other morning. Please try to be on time. Made the rest of you guys/gals look bad when the check airmen had to do the preflight and set up so they only pushed 3 late. I guess it doesn't matter since you are not on probation and it is pay back. Bottom line-----try to be professional or go somewhere else.
