Their big w-2's come from 2 areas; one is as you say higher daily minimums( work rules) which was my biggest disappointment with this TA, the other is their ability to fly up to the FAR max at premium pay which would be great for me but not good for our junior pilots. I wish we could cherry pick but the pie is only so big. Large w-2's can be a double edged sword.

After all, does this sound like Delta 737 flying:
Or does that sound like an 88?

Remember when the senior guys used to brag about how -little- they worked? And how they were going to retire early? Now I hear are things like, "I swapped with the swap board and picked up another 30 hours, now I've got a 110 hour month!"
Time at home with the kids and wife has always been more important to me, more important than a bigger W2. I guess that's why after 25 years and 4 kids, I'm still married to wife number 1. (that and with the 42% pay cut, I can't afford a divorce lawyer!
)
It would be nice if I could afford to retire in the next 3 years though, but this T/A does nothing to help me get out of my seat.
Now I hear there is a group of LCA's trying to eliminate age 65...so we've got that going for us.
Fly 'til
Any bets on how many (North) guys are going to take this "Early Out"? Only 182 took the last early out and 95% were from the North side. My bet is there won't be anything close to 350 this time, and again, 95% will be from the DB funded side. The South Side guys just don't have the money.

There is not a lot of sit time at SWA because a lot of their flying consists of through flights. They may start in BWI, but they stay on the same plane and hit 3 or 4 cities before ending up in ONT. They do that everyday. They fly the max, and are paid well too. We don't do that type of flying, instead relying on hub and spoke, with some waits. Hard to compare. But, we have more variety in flying, and with this TA, higher pay when including the DC funding, which is better overall too. I asked an MCO based captain if he enjoyed his trips and long days with lots of legs, and he said it grew old after year one.
One other area where SW is very efficient is their single aircraft type fleet. While we dead head our pilots all over the world, daily, using up those valuable F/C seats to NRT and back, daily, with crew, instead of HVC's, they don't have to do that. All their pilots are qualified on all their airplanes. Add in all the DL guys stuck in training for all those different aircraft types, no wonder SW is a LOT more efficient than we are.
And now we are going to add yet one more fleet type, to our already inefficient fleet mix. Is there a single airliner we don't fly?
I think we've got every airliner ever produced covered!
Brilliant! I smell Bonus Money!
(for Management, not for us)
Oh wait, we don't have any A380s!
I'm sure that 'Big Airplane order' is right around the corner...

Go to a road show. That "300" number is not correct, Many items are Staffing positive and they show the data.

Isn't vacation and training pay and no credit? (I know not for the LCW, but for max pickup it is)

That sounds like a 717, and the payrates by 2015 on it in the captain seat will be more than a 767 today. The 739 will be very close to that SWA rate, (especially with DC fund contribution) and the legs will be longer than the average Southwest 737 leg. You know that! Just plug in any SWA flight number in Flightaware dot com and take a look at the number of stops per day. Not even close.

ACL, did you go to a roadshow? Have you talked to BC or AG and expressed your concerns?
