There is zero movement in New York. It's a capped base at 57 crews. The reason new hires are getting it is because new hires from class(es) before got it involuntarily when they wanted a west coast base, and bid out at first chance. This is routinely apparent when every bid award shows extremely junior FO employee numbers from New York getting a west coast transfer.
The reason for the 5 FO open spots is because for Sept bid part II, 2 NY FOs upgraded to west coast, and 3 bottom FOs transferred to west coast. There are zero NY Captain upgrades and there won't be as long as the base is capped at 57 crews. Unless retirements (nil almost for Ny) or current Ny CAs bid west.

APC has said that Virgin America is "not hiring" for as long as I can remember. It said that when I applied and still said it when I was hired. Always check the company's "Careers page" to get the most accurate info!

Not sure if it changed but I've heard only one additional class this year of 12. Possibly misunderstood that they only need to hire 12 more and have some swimming in the pool.

From the AS Chief Pilot "GT" news letter
Briefly touching on highlights of hiring. We are planning on hiring 190 pilots this year, and 280 Alaska pilots the next. This is not a typo. VX plans to hire another 120 next year as well. The planned growth is impressive. Fortunately, we are s ll seeing many qualified interested candidates, although in general, a decrease in the numbers and experience. We know that we have to get in front of this pilot shortage crisis to a ract and retain the best pilots out there and all that it entails. I believe this week we are live with a new Alaska Pilot Recruitment Facebook page that will have informa on about app window openings, interview dates, job fair event schedules, Q&A, and eventually much more. There is a lot going on in this area and our numbers are huge for the next few years as long as the economy and the bank account can sustain the growth. Keep your recommends coming; they truly are top er when we are evalua ng poten al candidates.
