Hey guys I am in the July 10 class, coming up. This thread is super helpful, but I have a few questions.
-Whats the status of the NYC base? Did anyone get a rundown on whether they are going to chop it? Will they have an East Coast base? I heard rumors
-Where is the best place to live for the training? I've been looking on ****************, any other options? If anyone is in the July 10 class that wants to split something with me, pls msg me.
-What is ALPA saying about the pilots merger? Will it happen now or will it be in 2019 or something?
-Someone told me the NYC base is junior and has good reserve times, but on the forum here you're saying that the reserve is over a year. Is that accurate?
Thanks for the replies, good luck out there!

Buy a boat and keep it in the bay, best option.
Seniority List Integration will be done about 3 months after a new JCBA. JCBA could be next month or closer to October. As far as bidding from one plane to the other, not sure what type of limit there'll be yet. But the group will be a combined seniority list this year.
Thing is JFK is only 55 crews and 10 of those are reserves. What you and 10 people senior to you do makes all the difference. One month 4 people senior to you could be bidding over to SFO and the next month 5 people senior to you bid into the JFK. What often times happens is folks on the east coast area but not in NYC, bid for JFK. There's not a lot of movement in the top 40 spots, so they bid for the longer commute but a line in SFO. Once they can hold a line in JFK, they bid back. If reserve rules improve this year, you might see a lot more of the NYC locals bid reserve on purpose.

I was in a May class and just recently finished training. Some of the crews went to Miami and some stayed in SFO. If you stay in SFO, you and your sim partner will be provided a rental car for the two of you after INDOC is complete, but no hotel. If you go to MIA, same rental car arrangement but they also provide you with your own hotel room at the Hyatt House, which I hear is very nice. Pay is $2,500 per month and your first check will be prorated based on the number of days you are in training for that particular time frame. Per diem starts when you duty on for your airline to MIA but nothing if you do training in SFO.

There've been rumors about NYC since the merger started. So far they haven't said anything about it closing. There've been some discussions, mostly for the ITMs (FAs). Pilots have 117 advantages for having NYC. With that said, almost all the growth has been on the west coast. They said no decisions will be made that impact the base this year or next. It's kinda like the Airbus, it's not going away anytine soon but who knows 10 years down the line.
