The JFK base is really a NYC base because you have to cover all 3 airports JFK/LGA/EWR. It's a 3 hr callout so you would need to be somewhere where you can make all 3 airports in 3 hrs. SFO and LAX are a 2 hr callout.

OK I've got questions.
1. How long is training? I know its in Burlingame, but how about sims?
2. What's the pay like during training? Also do they put you in a hotel? Single/double occupancy?
3. Do you pay for your own unifroms/baggage?
4. With JetBlue and virgin america now both at Alps, does that start the rumor mill of making a merger easier?
Sorry if these questions have been answered somewhere else, I don't have time to flip through all these pages. Thanks

Well perhaps the nice VA pilots on here who would answer your questions all of a sudden "don't have time to type" either. A pretty rude statement IMO when you're looking for information. But what do I know....?

1. Training is about 2 months. 1.5 weeks of indoc and systems, 2 weeks of MFTD, Oral exam, then 2 weeks of Sims, Checkride. Then you get a min. of 7 days off, then off to IOE. To be signed off, you have to fly with 2 different LCA. Sim is also in Burlingame, but in a different location that HQ.
2. $2500/mo. No hotel
3. Uniform and luggage is all free. Then you get $200 credit a year in the uniform store.
4. That's just all Rumor. Who knows. But VX going ALPA plays no factor in facilitating a merger. SWA/AT and AA/US were both separate unions, it didn't stop them from getting together.

Do you have time to research the company before you apply? Do you have time to prepare for your interview? There is a "search this thread" function......

Thanks! Three hours shouldn't be a problem. Any about how long it takes to get from the parking lot to check-in? I live 1:50 from JFK, 2:00 from LGA. But that's normal traffic, not 5pm.

I went through a few years ago, so I dont know if its still accurate but it was:

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers. I'm not tech savy enough a search function. I know a lot about vx. Just not the questions I asked. Thanks
