Thank you shy. Anyone that believes we are correctly staffed in either seat is on crack.
This place is so far out of wack is not even funny.
Hawaii will be a disaster, hq won't admit it in six months when they pull down service. They are never wrong.

Sooooo... being on reserve and not flying for 3-4 weeks at a time is understaffed? Maybe the bases need a little aligning.

It's because they don't know how to utilize their reserves. Some reserves never fly and then there's ones that get abused. Then they rob Peter to pay Paul just to keep from using the reserves. I believe the airplanes are staffed at 5.6 crews/plane. I think that's a little less then Southwest and I know they're severely short on pilots. Just because a reserve never flies doesn't mean your planes are properly crewed with the right ratios.

Sounds like no chance the hiring window will be open before OBAP career fair. Anyone think different?

I was on a committee and sat in a meeting one day with some HR folks and the CP. HR was talking about a new hiring screening form. We specifically asked the CP if the hiring window was going to open. He said "no, but I'll let you know when it does so you guys can get recommendations in." It opened that night. So there's either a disconnect or...well, let's just leave it at a disconnect. Take it for what it's worth.

Nothing in terms of rumors or actual info. My guess is they'll need to. We're taking airplanes and we'll need to staff them. that being said, ask 3 different people, get 3 different answers. Ask different departments, get different answers. Comes down to when the bean counters figure out we're losing money due to lack of staff, that's when we'll hire.

A lot of my friends, including myself, that work here are a bit worried about the direction of this company... or a lack thereof. We're all happy here for the most part but no one [in mgt] seems to have a game plan; or if they do, they're not telling anyone what it is. We're opening Hawaii and beefing up already existing routes, that's the only thing that's actually happening aside from taking delivery of 10 airplanes over 10 months. Long term, no one knows. There isn't even a planned "all hands" meeting/phone call prior to the Q2 results coming out soon.

I imagine that alot of the perceived unwillingness to share info is due to VA now being a publicly held company.
Seriously, they have to have some sort of plan. Its just that they will have to be tight lipped going forward. Its actually a good thing.

I completely understand and get that. I'd just like to have some vague idea... like "hey, we'd like to expand quite a bit on the coasts or in the midwest" or "we'd like to keep it small for a while" or "international within 10 years!"

Just some sort of vague direction, I want to feel a bit more secure about the future of my career here. I have 30 years left to give to an airline (if I don't retire early of course), not asking for a 30 year assurance, but some 5-10 year goals wouldn't go unappreciated.
