Props to the Flt Crew, and everyone involved in making this happen the way it did. It's stories like this that make all the other superfluous BS in this industry seem a little bit more insignificant.

Outside of this being a good story, I think DAL's TV advertisement hit it out of the park with the tag-line "Never let the rules over rule common sense"......Glad UAL followed that mantra in making this story turn out the way it did.

Bravo.

I think Bob Six actually had a similar quote in one of the company's handbooks back in the 1970s..."Nothing in this manual supersedes common sense." Glad to see this all worked out. In my 8 years of experience with Continental and United Ops, Mr. Six's quote was very often left out.

Last flight of the day makes it very easy. Connections, legalities, etc, etc, typically aren't a factor.

Plane can't leave if the Captain's not in his seat IF the ground pounders aren't helping to do the right thing.

Good job.

Well said SoCal!

These opportunities are what make this job so great! The chance to help another human being in a small or great way. When we are recognized for it, it only further cements that feeling of self-worth and the difference that our occupation can make in people's lives.

Thanks for sharing.

Another injection of encouragement in a tumultuous industry!

Something sounds fishy. I'm wondering why they were paging the passenger if they were waiting for him and knew he was on the way. Plus his bags made the flight without any problems. His orchid letter, while sincere, may not reflect what was actually going on that night.

Kinda makes me think that there was some other kind of delay and UA may be "taking credit" for compassion when there was something else holding things up.

But then, I'm a noted conspiracy theoristl

This is a pilots forum, not a stewardess forum. Go away, or at least G*Y.

The ExpressJet flight left 4 minutes late and the delay code is "Unknown."

I've had this happen to me as well. It's frustrating and discouraging.

Kudos to ALL the people involved here. The crew of both flights, as well as the great folks on the ground who made the pieces fit together.

Bravo Zulu United!
