If you are merging two disparate airlines - like say Pinnacle and Delta, why not have an inverse fence that lowers.

Regardless of where the pilots fall on the master list, fence aircraft to "pre-merger" airlines.

When a Delta guy retires, look at the vacancy in his category, and open the bidding in seniority order for DAL guys, but inverse order for Pinnacle guys. That ensures that the Pinnacle guy is the plug in category. Same with a fenced Pinnacle plane. Number one guy retires on the 200, then a CA upgrade is available to the most senior Pinnacle FO, or the most junior DAL FO/CA wanting it. For bidding purposes, this person is the plug in category as well.

It's far from perfect, but I feel like it's a start in addressing such a wide disparity in career expectations for either group.

I'm sure some would fight for DOH. I believe that's been floated before.

The one airline I know that could've been merged and stapled relatively easy to Delta was Compass a few years back. But we were told we didn't want that to happen.

Anyone have an answer to the OPs question though?

April 14, 2008 - Merger Announced
Dec 8, 2008 - SLI
Dec 31, 2009 - SOC
May 2010 - First joint bid excluding fenced 747/777

Is that right? Best guess.

In other words one can go down in domicile but not out! Creates a lot of bad blood otherwise. But now 5 years on it has settled down for the most part.
[/QUOTE]

Dont take it wrong! NWA and DAL are much better off and a good place to work. In fact i dont want to be at UCAL or AAair (especially with the drunk team in place)

If I were a NWA pilot and did not have to commute anymore I would exercise every right to do so! That is a fact! The other side of the coin is there are gives and takes. Being forced to commute sucks! It is hard on families, thats my biggest gripe! Next merger I hope that guys go down but not out! Sitting in the JS going home from a commute and hearing a pilot flying home to his new base complain about how bad things are and why does the company do this and do that tends to raise BP especially after you were bumped out of base! Thats honest. Thats not a poke or a shot at any NWA pilot. So next merger ( god help us all) lets think about a few details that impact over all QOL for both groups!!

If a regional were to merge with a major airline, in court, you would stand a better chance of protecting your seniority with an independent union vs ALPA. For instance, if you had the DPA, and Delta merged 9E into you guys, you could get the 9E pilots stapled, vs an arbitrated integration with ALPA MP.

Mergers are always a bitter pill to swallow. It's just easier when a guy that was in high school when you started working here is now ahead of you on the list.

I was just asking what date of hire you were. To have been a 76 line holder before the merger. I guess you read to much into it.

Funny thing is the majority of 9E guys say this type of thing as an "example" but secretly think it will happen. Not saying this guy does, just needed someone to quote.

Lol there's no way it'll happen. You think "Hired not Acquired" and "Acquired not hired" is bad on the compass cards now.... Imagine 3000 guys who didn't get the DL interview and the treatment they would rightly get.

Best for Delta pilots would be Pinnacle pilots stapled to the bottom where they belong. Top Pinnacle pay is $87/hour. Second year pay on our smallest equipment is higher than that. Comair tried to merge DOH. They should have been fighting for a staple.
