Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
BS! I was hired in Sept without a single internal. If your app makes the grade, you can get an interview.

True, but an internal recommendation can ensure that your app gets reviewed and scored.

"Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking and on behalf of the first officer and I we'd like you all to know we are both so-so pilots but extremely well-rounded individuals. So without further delay please sit back, relax, and enjoy the fright....er...flight.

This is the BEST post in years regarding the hostage taking HR has accomplished with pilot hiring. That's why I got into this line of work; Im a technical, attention to detail guy, not a baby kissing, hand shaker. Well said. After years in this line of work, Im perplexed at former colleagues that are getting hired and others that are being passed over.

I understand your frustration. There have always been discriminators that the majors have used to hire. When I was trying to get hired 34 years ago, if you were over 30 or did not have 20/20 vision there was no way you would get hired. Today, with tens of thousands of applicants with a large amount of flight time/ TPIC in their logbook, one must stand out from others. Not saying being a Boy Scout Leader makes you a better Captain but it does make you stand out. It's a new world out there. Best of Luck to you all. BTW, retirement is not overrated!

Yes, it's frustrating when you see a resume that is significantly weaker than their peers. But if you actually look at the resumes, which many post on apc, the maybe so-so pilot resume but strong 'other' resume areas is actually a distinct minority. The majority of guys have very strong resumes. Avg AA newhire was 5500+ TT and someone posted UA's(?) avg TT and it was even higher.

The DL averages for both flight time and age are still much higher time/older than the stereotypes would have you believe. Even with the very rare "special cases" the averages are still old/high. OTS pilots have literally never had a better chance than right now with all the hiring. But the whole industry can't get on in the first year of the wave.

Based upon what I've seen on my J/S's lately (UAL new-hires), it does not seem to hurt your chances of getting hired if you are morbidly obese…I've seen some disgusting fat body's. So, put that on your app.
