Say again…

Yes, but I went to Emirates as a 777 captain 8 years ago. Getting so bad there (slave ship mentality… and THAT"S how they make so much money!) it was time for a change. Thought about coming back to the states to finish up but the money kept me in the expat world for my retirement days upcoming. But will always keep an eye out for opportunities everywhere.

Well said Kap. A lot of us are in the same boat. You reach that age when its not worth it to move. You get Stockholm syndrome and get used to be threatened all the time. The foreign airlines know this. I do think that in the next few years, minus goddam Putin or ISIS, a lot will go to the U.S. majors. The likes of Korean, Ethiopian, CX and Vietnam etc. will never change. You either make the best of it or just leave. It is just a job after all. I do not take my management/airline seriously. Some places are just a front for money laundering/hiding/tax write offs and don't give a rats ass about it's employees. I think that pass travel is a good indicator of what a company thinks of its employees and most of the foreign carriers are crap. They don't want you on the airplane as you are a nuisance. Fly the jet, we'll pay you and go home we do not want to hear from you.

The Chinese carriers offer the world but in reality it's a trick.

I have no problem with volunteer work. If you do, you don't see the problem.

It's not an HR game, it's a hiring a person who cares about their community game.

He just added this. It had 0 to little impact on him being hired. It's a carryover to the importance of this crap in the military. Add this to the "10 Deployments" too. They didn't care about this at all.

Frances, I wouldn't sweat it. I have children, so ALL I DO is volunteer work. LOL! Driving them to games, helping coach their team, to serving punch during their school Halloween party. Bottom line though, SWA never asked about it during the interview. I can't say that they didn't care, they just never brought it up.

Talk with recruits. Talking about their volunteer work can be a lot more interesting than their pilot stuff. Not all the time, not everyone, but sometimes it's stunning what people do.

In my spare time I enjoy watching football, telling lies, and drinking beer. I know several Delta guys that enjoy the same stuff. I guess I didn't notice them sneaking off to the soup kitchen afterwards.

I enjoy all those things as well. I also chose to give back to my community. I never visited a soup kitchen, there are LOTS of ways to volunteer. Sorry you see that as a negative. Unfortunately for you, most airlines, and most companies in the world, see it as a positive.
But sure, write:
"I enjoy drunkeness, lying and the Arizona Cardinals on my days off. I think volunteering on my days off for those around me is a waste of time."
Good luck with that.
