I'm retiring mil and using all my terminal leave and remaining PTDY to set my possible class date. This is not a current dilemma, but could be soon: should you take that interview at airline B if it would eat up a couple of days of PTDY and force a two day slip in availability date and cause you to take a later class date at airline A?
Just retired and hired at United. I'd choose the airline you want to be with. Period. Base it on location, culture, whatever your reasons are. Just as the military was, it'll be something you have to live with for a long while.

Congrats on United! I have a CJO from my first choice already, it's just the "C" part that has me thinking about insurance.

With a CJO and the airlines hiring as they are, you should be pretty safe. At least that is how I would feel.

I have to disagree with PA slammer's advice. Just look at what has happened to guys who got a CJO from AA in Oct 2014. Most of them, and all who were offered a CJO after that are still waiting for a class date. If a world event causes hiring to stop (like 911), their CJO will likely never be honored. Now if you already have a class date lined up, you're probably good to go. You could even ask airline B to push your interview back a bit.

But what if your favorite airline doesn't call? My number one choice of airline didn't call me until over a year after I separated. I took a job with a lower tier choice at separation and think I'm now better off there for multiple reasons. I'm glad I had a job when I separated.

Also, I get choosing based on locations, but culture? How can you evaluate that without actually working there? These forums aren't too reliable for that.

^this.

I was called and hired by airline A. Airline B would've made much more sense based on where I live. Airline A was the only major hiring at the time. A year later Airline B gave me an interview. I declined for various reasons. I would've been unemployed for at least a year if I had waited.

You don't know anyone there? Are you active duty? In a guard or reserve unit there are many people you get to know well that are with different airlines. You can trust their opinions. I would think though you probably already have an idea of the culture, problems, unity, etc... of where you are considering.

Personally, I was most interested in United and Delta, the other carriers didn't seem like the right fit for "me". I also want to end up living out west in a few particular cities. Regardless, you can and may, change your mind if needed later.

Ask yourself why you went into the particular service you went into. Your question may already be answered.

BTW, if you base your decision on "if a world event happens", you'll never take the necessary chances to make anything happen.

I didn't mean base your decision on "if a world event happens", rather, take a job offer now (you can always jump ship later) as insurance against a world event.

I'm really am glad everything worked out for you, but I know several folks that were set on AA, and have now had to move on due to the year long delay in getting a class. They can always jump ship to AA if a class date ever gets offered. If a class date doesn't get offered, they'll have a great career at choice B or C. Ironically, I wasn't really interested in AA, but that's where I am, and pretty optimistic about my future here.

What was the October 2014 and January 2015 pool count? 50?

It will be interesting if the email groups will give us the total CJO count and the actually number that accept AA's offer if and when it comes.
