That's because most of the civilian pilots are new hires at the regionals chasing upgrades. I guess some call it job hopping. While most of the military new hires are being hired at any legacy they apply for and then "job hop" to their legacy of choice. Might be the same 1500 military folks constantly being hired over and over again, like the same 1500 regional folks churning at the bottom chasing upgrade. I will only be concerned when the Legacy Airlines start hiring Air Force Drone pilots over regional pilots.

Any day now we should see a Air Force Pilot shortage being advertised.

AA has been hiring twice the expected percentage of female pilots in 2014 and approx twice the expected percentage of military guys.

When you add in approx. 50% flows the overall percentages work out. Given the relative ages of the various groups the seniority lists will be overweighted for females, and then former military, in the out years as the old list retires.

This year OTS is only about 25%(?) of the total on boarding so the overall odds are even tougher if you're a civilian male pilot.

Since recruiting doesn't provide the data we're left analyzing crumbs trying to figure out what the crumbs came from.

I heard from an American source today that they are slowing down on the flow-through hiring? Any truth to this?

From what was explained it sounded like they have enough flows in the pool to last until the end of the year so they won't be flowing anymore until January. That said the number of flows per class should stay the same.

Care to elaborate? Those are incredible numbers to get hired at DL.

I've met such a person myself. A very attractive female. Who, as a matter of fact, took the jumpseat from my lowly regional self and proceeded to explain to me the protocol. (Because my 31 year old self wouldn't understand without her explaining it to me...)

This was several years ago.
