[QUOTE=cdub;2195543]I have apps in at Fedex, UPS, Delta, United and SW. 15 years at SkyWest and checkairman, but 55 years of age. Never received one invite offer. No accidents, incidents or discipline and a four year degree with a 4.0 GPA. Military veteran as well, but not as a pilot.

13,000 hours flying experience in Canada, U.S, and Mexico. Been holding down the fort since 911, but watching co-pilots getting the call. Believe me I am not happy.[/

You are from the "lost generation" of pilots. There are plenty of us out there that will be ignored by the Legacies, FedEx and UPS. You can pay someone to tell you this but the computer algorithms being used make it difficult if you are out of the parameters for age and your labeled unmotivated for not moving on to bigger equipment despite your stellar qualifications. You can also pay someone to review your app. and tell you you should capitalize NA or go to a job fair. The computer still has to pick you though. I am 100% positive Allegiant, Frontier, Spirit, Atlas, ABX and Jetblue would hire you in the next few months though. Consider it a consolidation prize for doing everything right except for timing. You have every right to be frustrated.

Moonbeam: Your words give me hope. Why in your opinion do you think LCC's will begin to open their gates unlike in the last year or so? Cheers! Im really hoping for JetBlue when it comes to domestic flying!

I have flown with the co-pilots that got the call and they all have the same thing in common; they actively pursued the job. They all tell me stories about the high time captains they flew with who "would not play the game" i.e. going to job fairs and networking. The majors are hiring people not flight time.

Obviously we can only take Silver Fleet at his word about the quals and that there's no red flags on the app...but assuming he has attended a job fair or two or three over the last several years, what else would you have him do? College degree with a 4.0, LCA... Get some volunteer time, maybe (assuming it isn't already there)? The biggest thing I can think of is to get the apps scrubbed professionally if not done recently.

But if I understand the application process well enough, all the places he applied to save for Delta use computers to pull the highest scoring apps at the time based on whatever scoring system they have in place. If that's the case, then wouldn't it be that the way you "play the game" with the computers is to maximize your score by checking as many boxes as possible? (Honest questions from someone applying soon.) It just doesn't jive to me that a guy like this needs to "play the game" more and it may be that his stats (age, hours, etc) aren't what the scoring logarithms are looking for. But please someone tell me if I'm way off base here.

Didn't come back to this thread until now and then realized I wrote silver fleet in my last post when I meant you, cdub. Anyway, I don't think you're whining. I'd probably feel the exact same way and want to vent some frustration.

wookie - nice job being prepared. A couple of job fairs (box checked) and then checked the upgrade box. Was that a new type rating also?
